What type of shelf life does this type of paint and all the primer and hardener ect have?
The reason I ask is that 2 or so years ago I went to the paint store and asked for every thing I would need to paint a car but the I havent painted it yet and am hoping to get it done this summer. Did I waste $300 of stuff or is it still good?

Thanks
Evan

It should be fine.Did you open the hardener? That has a short shelf life but it sounds like you didnt open it,if not don't worry about it.

I would have a little concern about the hardener. Give the PPG tech line a call and give them the batch number. It may have been sitting on the shelf for two years before you got it, now you have FOUR year old hardener. Even then it may not be a problem, but it is cheap insurance to replace it or at the very least find out for sure.

Thanks for the quick replys. I have not opened any thing yet. Is there any way to tell if the hardener is still good or not? Where would I find the batch number? Is it the number on the bottom of the can?

thanks again

I would take it back to the supply house and have them to shake the paint again. It's got to need it after setting that long.

Check the hardener to see is it has yellowed at all. That's the first indication that it is bad. Also make sure that there are no chunks floating in the can anywhere. If there is, you need to throw it out.

With PPG, the hardener is your only real concern. The paint should last several years, even reduced. (but don't push it). Take it back to the supply house, they may give you a new can.
