I am going to paint my new engine as seen here (http://home.covad.net/~pentibum/image3.jpg),body color this weekend. I have the Dupont BC/CC system to use. I do not have a primer.
Is a primer suggested to use over an engine block?
Can I use a rattle can epoxy primer from Dupli-color or something?
or do I need to buy the DUpont Epoxy Primer?

Mostly this boils down to a cost issue. I would like to use the Dupont primer, but I believe it will be expensive to get all the stuff for it.

Any direction would be helpful.

Thanks

Tim

Damn nice engine there. I wouldn't use the rattle can stuff.Use a good epoxy,as this is the primer and if the primer fails your topcoat will fail. and it is a real mess to clean peeling, flaking paint off an engine block and redo it when its in the car.You can paint an engine with automotive paint, but everything has to be clean(brake cleaner works well) and use top quality material.

I would prime with a etch primer, especialy if you are painting any of the aluminum. Keep the film thickness down (don't over apply) it will crack if the paint gets to thick. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
