: Looking for 110mph
69-CHVL Nov 17th, 05, 8:41 AM OK, I think I can get there, I'm less than 3mph from that goal. If I can get the 60' down to 1.8, I think it will happen. Plus, I need to short shift a little more (I may have been over reving last time out).
I will get another set of wheels and tires. I'm thinking drag radials or equiv b/c I do want some (very little) tire spin to keep parts together. I have a 28" tire now. What do you guys suggest in terms of the tire and size? I'm thinking a smaller tire to help the 3.31's out. Also, a TKO600 may be happening in the near future if that makes any difference.
DOUG G Nov 17th, 05, 9:08 AM MPH is an indicator of horsepower Vs. weight.
*I think if you get your 60' down, your ET will drop, and your MPH will be near the same.
*For every .1 off 60' your ET should drop .2 (est.)
I was running 13.2's @ 103.XX untill head change. Buddy up the street is 13.2's @ 108.XX. Both of us were in the 1.9-2.1 range for 60's.
Just for comparison (optimum set up),you have the MPH to run faster IMO.
ET MPH
13.0 101
12.9 102
12.8 103
12.7 104
12.6 105
12.5 106
12.4 107
12.3 108
12.2 109
12.1 110
69-CHVL Nov 17th, 05, 9:17 AM I figured that w/a 2.4 60', I had that much less track to get the mph up.
2.4 is pretty pathetic...
BB_Mike Nov 17th, 05, 9:29 AM 2.4 is pretty pathetic...
Yeap.
Work on that some. Are you sure your posi-traction is working as it should? Can you lay an even patch of rubber on the street?
You should be able to drive that car to about a 2.0 to 2.2 sixty foot time, regardless of tire selection.
New tires will certainly help, but it won't drop you down to a 1.8 sixty foot without some better launching technique. Or maybe even some rear susps' attention.
BLT4FN Nov 17th, 05, 11:09 AM Vince I use a set of BFG TA 275/60 *15's (28") and ran a best this year on these of 1.864-60' and 12.396@110.6 mph. (same set up as I would drive it for a Sunday afternoon drive in the sun.)
I'm not sure where all my gain came from (was running 107-108mph earlier in the year) other than maybe cooler air and some glue put on the starting line as the 60' time dropped by .3 or so, but that same day I did have a 12.73 run @ 110mph and a 12.73 @ 108.9 mph and the 60' was better in the slower speed run.
btw it seem all you have to do with these tires is do a light clean them off burn out if they have the glue down. D)
69-CHVL Nov 17th, 05, 6:05 PM Shaun, I'm impressed w/the 60' you were getting with these tires. I have 2 problems, one is the launch, and then after I getting going the car will again start to break loose right before hitting 2nd.
BB_Mike - the last time out at the track I was getting consistent 2.2's, but after a few mods I gained a bunch of torque and HP, so leaving the line is more difficult. As far as the posi goes, I never looked for 2 even lines. The car just goes sideways.
Lets not forget guys, this is a 4 spd car.
BLT4FN Nov 17th, 05, 11:40 PM they must of had a bunch of glue down that day. It has never 60' like it did that day.
jtm60 Nov 18th, 05, 7:49 AM vince..i had some of the same questions about setting up my 69 to run, although I havent done anything yet..
I have original ss wheels on there now with BFG Radial T/A's...I have a 3.31 posi and M22W. I think for this combo, based on my back and forth with Mr. 4 Speed would be to use a 15x7 or 15x8 rim in the back, and go with the BFG drag radial 235/50(?)..the diameter will wind up being a little shorter than the 225/60R14's on the car now, and will allow it to hook up, when the time comes, I will probably go this way.
69-CHVL Nov 18th, 05, 7:58 AM jtm,
What is the diameter on that tire? Im currently at 28", I was thinking a 26?
mr 4 speed Nov 18th, 05, 8:01 AM JTM, a 235/60/15 drag radial is what you want or a 26" x 9.5" x 15" Hoosier DOT Pro
69-CHVL Nov 18th, 05, 6:19 PM Anybody make a drag radial w/RWL's?
69-CHVL Nov 18th, 05, 6:22 PM JTM,
Did you lower the pressue to get those time? I went down to 20lbs, seems to have helped. Maybe I shoulda tried 16?

I believe this is the one I will be purchasing when the time comes..( along with a set of 15" ralley wheels or something..)

jtm60 Nov 19th, 05, 9:03 AM JTM, a 235/60/15 drag radial is what you want or a 26" x 9.5" x 15" Hoosier DOT Pro
Chris: Yes, I see my 1st post above was in error..I confused the A/R of my current tires vs. what I need...I have (14") 70 series now, need to go to 60 series (15") in the drag radial for my setup and retain the 14's on the front..gotcha..sorry for the confusion on that Vince.
