I am restoring a 67 chevelle with a 283 want to give the engine a little more boost from 195 hp.. What is the bigest size cam without going to a stall conv. and carb. Just want to give the car that muscle car sound and better performance. Thanks for any input

You are only at 9.25 to 1 CR. stock so something like a CC 252HE is about it, imho..

AND the great old-fashioned Performer cam will run nicely in it too, but you may give up a schosh of the bottom end like the 260HE vs the stock -929 cam.

195/202 vs 204/214 vs 206/206, (-929, Performer and the 252HE)..

AND even CC's Pure Energy cam at 203/212 should be a dany too!!

I have to say that if you can get the little jewel up to 10 to 1 or some over, a stock old Duntov, -097 solid cam or even E-brock's 270S solid cam will make her run as high as you have nerve enough to hold your foot down with no more than a cheap set of Z-, (-142) valve springs!! 7 to 7,500 rpm EASY!!!

ANd a very good head for doing this is no more then the stock, Power-pack head and better still, just a 305HO, -601 head!!!
