What do you guys think about powder coating an aluminium radiator?Does that affect cooling properties any way?I just like black color more than aluminum, that`s all..
Thank you
Pete

Careful that the solder doesn't melt. Same on the filler neck of a gas tank.

Sorry, I was thinking of origianl radiator, not aluminum. Still think it might be a problem of holding in heat.

Hi Pete
Are you talking about the whole radiator or just the tanks. I work a lot with powder coated items and that stuff flows pretty well. If you are doing just the tanks I would see no problem othere a bit of a temp rise. But it you do the whole unit you are asking for a lot of trouble. As I see the air flow being very restricted by paint covering the vents that lets air pass through the radiator thus not cooling the engine temp at all. I would think maybe a few light coats of a good spray paint might be better than the powder if you must do the whole unit but that still closes up the air passages some what just my humbol opinion

DON'T DO IT! You want a thin coat of flat black paint on the radiator. Anything thick will retain heat.

Yep, I was going to coat it allround, when I talked to the guy that does coatings, he told that it`s only 20thousands? thick coating,if thats true would that be problem still?
What about copper radiators those are allways coated black ?

Twenty thousandths of powder coat would likely make your radiator very ineffective. Stay with ordinary paint.

Ok guys, now that I think about it, aluminum color starts to look very nice :D
Thank very much for you all,
Pete
