Just a quickie... does anyone know if the body mount bolts have a torque spec. I'm replacing them on a 1969 Chevelle and have had pretty good luck getting them out. I'm just not sure if I overtighten them if it would break the cage nut or not.
Thanks!!

The assembly manual for 69 chevelles says 30 to 45 ft lbs, use 30.

Jake, are you just lifting the body slightly to replace the bushings or did you have it all the way off the frame? Just asking how hard it was to replace the bushings one at a time if the body was not off the car and how did you do it? Loosen or remove all the bolts and then jack up a section at a time, block it with a 2 x 4 and remove the old bushing and then drop the new one in and lower the body to add the bolt?
Can it really be that simple assuming everything comes out without breaking the bolt or the nuts loose?
Thanks

I did it on mine, I broke my first two nuts off but could remove the inner fender well and get access. I found by using lots of penetrating oil, letting it sit for a few days, then undoing an entire side then lifting the body replacing all the bushings (all but the front two) then letting th ebody back down was much easier, i found that if you didn't loosen or remove all of the bolts the body was getting hung up on the next row of bolts,
Personally the way i did it i can't belive that the car didn't shift and the bolt holes not line up but they did. Maybe it was luck maybe it wasn't :)

Rob, Thanks for the torque specs.
ChevysRus, I didn't actually replace the bushings yet but did remove all the bolts, wire brushed them, greased them and reinstalled them. I haven't purchased the body mount set yet but will be doing so in the next few weeks. The only mounts I had a problem with were the 2 cowl bolts (behind front wheels), but as gumball said access is easy behind the wheel wells.
As for installation I read a lot in this forum and will attempt the following...
- remove all body mount bolts on left side of car
- loosen all body mount bolts on the right side of car
- using a floor jack and a 2x4 or 4x4 lift the body by the rocker panel slightly.
- slide old bushing out and install new one (use a block of wood between body and frame while your hand is up there... for safety)
- start bolts on new mounts but leave loose
- do same thing on other side of car
I hope I have this right, if not, someone please chime in.
Hope it helps!!
I do believe that there is some allignment holes through the frame and into the bottom of the car, what im trying to say is make sure the body is sqare on the frame, and isnt to far foward or back on the frame when bolting it back down. When you have it where you want it use lock tight on the bolts as they tend to loosen back up,Darryl
