I'm looking for a suitable paint to repaint my '67 Sears lawn tractor with. I plan on bringing it to shows as an accessory when the El Camino is finished so this too will be detailed and redone. It was originally an off-white and bright red; what kind of paint was the original stuff? It's still there and shiny, just worn and a little faded from use so it could use a repaint. I plan on stripping it and redoing it. What kind of paint would work best? What was on it originally? I doubt it was lacquer because it didn't check or dry out. What kind of paint would work for a repaint?

You want the perfect "fleet" style paint? How about sand blast, acid etch primer, epoxy or urethane primer sealer and a single stage urethane like Dupont's Imron or M-S Prism or S-W Genesis or PPG Delta.

Dang shawn, I think you need a time machine set to, lets say 1965 or so. You're working on a nice collection of ''stuff'' there!
Oh ya the paint, My old man swore by sears weather beater although he never painted a lawn tractor before.

Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind. Right now, the tractor is painted in aerosol paint, which when I painted it, matched perfectly but it faded to an ugly maroonish color, so it's due for another repaint. Also, the white paint I put on it didn't cover all that well and it's bright white, instead of the original off-white. The hood is still the off-white color so it doesn't look right. It'll be nice to get it all one uniform color again!
