The front floor panels in my 71 Chevelle are very badly rusted and need replacing because the body moves from the frame on high speed turns. Does anyone know a price range on how much it might cost to get someone to put in new floor panels or just reply if you have a suggestion. Thank you.

What kind of condition are your body bushings in?

The body bushing is a big round rubber bushing that goes between the body and the frame. What scooter is saying, if your bushing's are shot, or maybe some of them gone in this case, it might allow your body to move like you are describing.

You say the body moves from the frame at high speed cornering. That's an easy fix. SLOW THAT DAMN THING DOWN. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif Just givin ya crap. Cal

Ok... well I just took my car into my mechanic for a standard, look around make sure everythings ok, type of inspection and they said that the floor panels are badly rusted and when you are going over 60 and turn the body moves away from the frame. When I drive over 60 and turn, I dont notice crap! Do you think their trying to get me here or what other inspection could I possibly do to look at the rubber bushing. Thanks. Mike

The bushings are located in several areas. There is one on each side of the radiator. Jack your car up and look under the car. If you look on top of the frame under the doors, you'll see a 3 1/2 inch rubber doughnut between the frame and the bottom of the car. Others can be found behind the rear wheels. Just follow the frame and you'll find them. Replacing them is another story.

Well thanks a lot you guys. I take care of everything from here. Hopefully I'll be able to save some money off of your tips and suggestions. Many thanks!! Mike.

Here is a pic that shows some of the body bushings on a '68 Chevelle chassis. (I took these pics at Chevellabration 2002 for just such an emergency.)

This one shows the farthest forward body bushings:

The body bushings are the big round things sitting on the frame rails.

(Isn't that a beautiful car?)
