While trying to track down a problem, I accidently pulled a bulb holder out and the bulb went into the speedometer housing. Can anyone tell me the bulb number that is used for the Speedometer. Also, is it necessary to keep the metal retaining clip in the dash which caused the bulb to fall into the instrument cluster, and if so, how do I get the other bulb out of the speedometer case.

That so totally sucks...i had the same thing happen AFTER i had already rebuilt everything and installed them in the car....the metal retaining clips are horribly designed...anyway, the instrument illumination lamps are #1895's and are the same for all "instrument cluster lamps" noted in the wiring diagram.......As far as getting the old one out of the dash?? I'm not sure how w/o disassembling some portion of the dash...probably not worth it if its installed and not rattling....and yes, you still need the metal clip.....they are press fit into the socket via 2 metal prongs....and are what hold the thing to the dash.....let me know if you have other questions...good luck...

I've hedged my odds a bit when pulling the socket out by slightly twisting it while pulling it out at an angle. If it doesn't work I then remove the clip and supper glue it back into the socket leaving the bulb in there.

I am not sure I could count how many bulbs came out of my '68 guage cluster when I pulled it out. Apparently your are not the first and it is a very common problem.
