I recently purchased a 1969 Chevelle. This car has new quarter panels (1995) and new weather-stripping on the trunk. I had my wife lock me in the trunk with a flash light (and the key to her jewelry box) while she ran water over the back of the car. I’m getting leaks at the top corner of the trunk on the drivers side and at the bottom corners of the trunk near the tail lights. The area at the bottom of the rear window is dry. I also checked the weather-stripping with some Vaseline to confirm that the gasket is making contact with the trunk and it’s OK. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Charlie

I had the same problem with mine this past year Charlie. The same places you mentioned plus a couple of other corners. Mine also had GM quarters put on several years ago.
The only way I could solve it was with a new weatherstip (don't put it upside down which is easy to do) and sealant all the way around. Normally you should not have to put sealant everywhere, but I did it just to be sure. No problems since.
Good luck.

Don,
The weather-stripping that came with the car was new. I removed it and reinstalled it with adhesive. Plus I checked the seal with Vaseline to make sure it sealed to the deck lid. I’ll double check the adhesive in the area’s where the leaks are. The weather-stripping adhesive I used was the yellow type, almost like a contact cement. The last time I installed weather-stripping I used the black adhesive. I think I like the black type better.
Thanks,
Charlie

Bubba, I used the 3M Black Adhesive as well. If it seeps out at all it looks better with the black weatherstrip.

Man.. What a creative way to check for leaks http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
When i was little, My older brother pushed me into the trunk of the Chevelle and closed it. After a few imprecations ( http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif ), he took me out..

Mine leaks also.
I think some of it was getting in through the trim and emblems on the trunk lid. I don't know if all years are the same, but mine attach with bolts which must be sealed to prevent leaks.

Bubba, the first time I had my wife lock me in the trunk to check for a leak, I not only had the key to her jewelry box in my pocket, but also the keys to the car. True story.
Since the car has had new quarters, it's quite possible that the contour of the metal is slightly off at the weatherstrip lip area. Another often neglected area is at the rear glass recess under the chrome trim. A body/seam sealer from underneath will usually correct that. If the contour is out of whack, some careful repositioning will correct the problem.
