I pulled out my backseat with no problems but now when I try to put it back in I am running into an issue. The seat back will not lock into position. Are there clips on the floorpan that it hooks into or some kinda of bolt? When I put the bench part in the seat back just pops up and I can easily pull it forward. It makes me a little nervous since my kids want to ride in the back. Please help.....

The back seat hangs on metal tabs that are mounted on the body. You hang the top of the seat and screww the bottom in with a couple of screws

The seat back should slide down and catch some clips at the top.
the bottom of the seat back shoud screw in.
The seat bottom has to pe pushed backwards and down to catch the retaining clips that hold the bottom in place.

Do you guys happen to know where it screws in for the seat back? I bought the car a few weeks ago and I don't beleive the seat back was ever screwed in.

Thanks,

Mike

My 66 just had the bottom tabs bent over.

My 66 has the tabs bent over as well. The square shaped "loops" at the bottom of my seat back are too big to be fastened down with screws.

Hilo, The seat back hangs on hooks near the top and "hoops" at the bottom rest on the floorboard where it turns up. There should be metal tabs spot welded there which are bent over (through) the seat back hoops.
The "seat" part tucks in and sortof under the seat back part and then the framework of the seat locks into a hooky piece spot welded to the floor. You have to REALLY push the lower part of the frame back and down to get it to lock in. You will know when it sets into the hooky piece, it is nice and sturdy.

Jon is 100% correct, there are no screws that attach either seat (at least not on my 66), I can confirm that since I have had it from day one, it can be a challenge hooking the bottom seat in place, push it toward the rear hard and at the same time push down on the top front of the seat, it should engage the metal tabs on the floor. Hope this helps.

I wonder if convertibles are different than the hardtops,
or is 67 different than 66. I just parted out a 67 convertible.
the seat back had screws.

DropTop396 you could be on to something concerning 67's and convertibles having screws, I have never been into either one, one thing for certain on these cars, there are exception to the routine way of doing things, like Friday afternoon, I want to get the hell out of here this will work. Case and point, as I mentioned in my post I had the 66 since new, did a frame off in 2000, all I had ever heard was that SS BB cars came with 3/8" fuel lines, SB Malibu's like mine came with 5/16", so without looking closely I ordered a 5/16" line, keep it in the box for months, took my frame down and to my suprise my 283 came with a 3/8" line, why I could not tell you but it did. So after that I always leave myself some room for the unexpected.
