View Full Version : 72 SS white interior questions
mr409 Nov 13th, 05, 8:23 PM I'm thinking of changing the color of my interior from tan to white on my 72 with an upcoming paint color change to orange.
I was wondering what parts of the interior were white? I believe some things are black such as dash and dash pad but is there anything else in black? (kick panels, arm rests, headliner, carpet????)
Looking through some catalogs, I see they even have white carpet! (not sure I'm daring enough for that)
Thanks for any help.
P.S. Pics would be greatly appreciated!
newmexguy Nov 14th, 05, 12:44 AM Have a 72 Malibu 350 (bucket seat, manual floor shift non console) that had original ivory interior, but the dash assembly was black.
mr409 Nov 14th, 05, 4:39 PM Thanks.
I still need to know all parts that should be white so I can order some of the pieces.
I was thinking of doing the headliner & moldings in black and possibly the carpet with most everything else in white. Would that be correct for a 72?
Anyone???
Bob
gigem Nov 14th, 05, 5:11 PM You can see my white interior on my website in my signature.
Only white parts are seat covers and door panels. Dash, carpet, visors kick panels are all black. I assume the headliner would be too, but mine is a convertible.
454Malibu Nov 14th, 05, 7:49 PM Mine was tan and I went to white. Door panels, seats, arm rests, and windlace are all that's white. Everything else is black, even the seatbelts. I like it.
mr409 Nov 15th, 05, 7:07 AM Thanks guys! It was a choice of all black or the white/black combo. I think the white/black just won. LOL
I found everything except the rear arm rests and door windlace in white. Anyone know of a supplier of these?
It's settled then, car will be orange with white SS stripes and white/black interior.
For conversation....I wonder why they list a WHITE carpet in the NPD catalog? I've never seen a car of any make/model with a white carpet.

454Malibu Nov 15th, 05, 11:58 AM I got all my stuff from Classic Muscle. I see now OPGI has the white windlace. I used my original rear peices and used covers from Classic.
Sams454SS Nov 15th, 05, 12:18 PM Bob,
I had a 1972 SS 350 with a white interior. All seats were white, both door panels, and rear panels, the rear arm rests, were white. The carpet, kick panels, dash, dash pad, headliner, visors, and rear deck and pad were black. It is a nice contrasting combination if kept clean. Let me now if there is anything you need clarrification on. Glad to help!

mr409 Nov 15th, 05, 3:28 PM Thanks John and Sam. That's about all I needed to know.
I'll check those vendors out.

Who knows? I ordered my interior from Ground Up as a complete kit. When I first got it, it had white sunvisors. Ever see a car with those?
I've seen a few show cars with white carpet. Never on a driver, especially on a car owned by a guy with three kids! Wouldn't last one day at my house.
454Malibu Nov 15th, 05, 4:38 PM I had a 69 Firebird with white leather seats. The headliner and the sunvisors were white but the carpet was black.

I too am changing my '72 convert from black to white interior.
I just ordered all the interior items needed for the conversion from Ground Up last Saturday.
The White Windlace is part # IJW-7W @ $29.95
I didn't need rear armrests...not in a convert.
Derek69SS Nov 15th, 05, 5:56 PM How "white" is the white interior? I'm looking at converting to white, and using THESE (http://www.motorsportseats.com/procar/rally.html) aftermarket seats in my car, which are available in a very white-white.
454Malibu Nov 15th, 05, 9:25 PM Pretty white.

Sams454SS Nov 15th, 05, 10:15 PM John,
Boy that brings back memories of the old red 72....Red, Black and White....clean as can be. Looks great John! See what I mean by the contrast....makes a great looking car. Oh by the way the hood and deck stripes were white on my 72 also.
454Malibu Nov 15th, 05, 10:58 PM Thanks Sam. Mine Too.

mr409 Nov 16th, 05, 12:01 PM John, very nice car!
We must have the same taste as mine will be very similar to your car, just substitute the red for orange and change the wheels to rally's. I decided to go with a hardtop and no vinyl.
Mine is also a Malibu and will get an SS hood w/white stripes and already has the SS style all vinyl interior w/buckets, changing to white/black.
I just ordered an interior package kit from Ausleys for $690.00 which is the best deal I could find. This includes; Front and rear seat covers, front and rear door panels, complete molded 80/20 carpet, deluxe headliner and rear package tray, package tray insulation, front arm rest bases and pads, carpet underlayment, door seal plates, dome lens and dome bezel.

454Malibu Nov 16th, 05, 5:34 PM Hey Bob, Thanks. I was thinking about no vinyl top too but I think it just adds so much to the look with it.
