Scott, how about you just go buy yourself an old beater, say a '74 Mercury Montego, or a Pontiac Granville, you know, something huge. Then have a little fender bender with the guy. Maybe knock the rearend out of it while it's parked. Then run. :D

Scott,
Does it really matter that much? I think I would be flattered.
I've got a neighbor that pretty much copies any improvements/changes I do to my home and yard...including holiday decorations.
I think it's funny... :waving:

Then next year you still have it. :D

Heck be flattered, at least he has good enough taste in copying what you like, It would be something different if he were to copy your car and then dis the way you built your car.
It would look kinda cool to have twin cars at a show. Jim

Why don't you make yourself a costume. One that looks like him. Same clothes hair, facial hair ect....buy the same kind of dog as him. That'd be funny. Clone him and join his church. Shake his hand on Sunday.
Just kidding of course.

I believe the problem is that this kid runs around raising heck in his car... and people are mistaking Scott for this trouble maker and causing him grief.

Hey at least you beat him to a magazine feature.

Just keep a copy of the feature article about your car on the dash, at least he can't copy that.

As far as im concerned F*&k him. Im sorry if I have to bring my point across like that. Just because some bozo is copying you is no reason for you to justify thousands just to change your car. Just doesnt seem right to me. Everyone knows who the original is. Thats you. Not him. Just because he has done his car after yours is not a reason to completely change your car.

Sometimes im a gluton for punishment. Just doesnt seem worth making a ton of changes for just one guy. Carma will catch up to him if he is causing problems.

Actually, what you could do is make small changes like color matched bumpers and some custom touches like some modern style mirrors or different rims. That way if he copys that you can easily change back to compensate. Thats what I would do. I think your car is perfect with the color it is now. Just my opinion.

does he know your car exists? my elky rarely leaves the garage, and around here, everybody paints thier rides, red, or yellow, so i was going to go sky blue, then i met bigmoe, and didn't want to steal his thunder, so i went with cobalt blue. now there are three elky's around, the same color. if you like the car, the way it looks, then leave it. why spend $ to repiant, when you could use the $ for another project. if you want something different, then dayglo green with dayglo orange stripes is probably the only way to be different from others. bbblondie has a metallic black with pearl white strips and i think you live far enough apart, that it wouldn't be a problem.....

Leave it Silver but do something to make it different, like ghost flames, or maybe paint the rocker panel area black. If you do paint it black, add a lot of colored pearl, maybe blue or green, to it to make it harder for him to copy.

Hot pink with two black stripes then lets see if he will copy you. Dont do the boring old SS stripes. Paint it black and do some crazy SS ghost stripes and takes off all the emblems and have them painted on with some crazy ghost look to them. Thats what ive been planning to do with my chevelle sometime in the far future.

Gotta second the "F" 'em response. You know I've seen your car. Chances are he's got blood coming from HIS eyeballs because he keeps hearing "But Scott's is still nicer."

If this guy is really is really out to copy you, what happens when he paints his car black too?

If you really want a different color, that's okay. But don't do it because of someone else. There are plenty of other ways to make your car unique.

FWIW!

Flat black or satin with clearcoat.

Nov 14th, 05, 3:47 PM
Just do this, photoshop your car another color, then post it ALL OVER the internet asking what everybody thinks about your new color, then he gets wind of it and repaints then BAM, he's the sucker, you still have your color and didn't spend a dime. Oh and I'm also considering going from my original Fathom Blue to black with white stripes, so you'll have to pic something else :D

This goes back a few years now.......The part that ****es me off the most is that his car needs paint right now and he is still going to re - paint it Silver....I know ther are many cars out there that are the same... but my home town is very small and there is someone that say's something to me almost on a daily basis.

As far has who is faster and who has the nicer one....Hands down mine wins...His car has a smog 454 that has never been to the track.(no cage etc)But even car guy's say ..Hey I saw you last night in town doing donuts etc.....Well I have never done a donut with my car and I am just SICK of hearing things like this all the time......

As far as the cost...I have a friend who did my car last time and will do it very cheap....as long as I help......SO it will be the best $1000 bucks I ever spent.

The part that ****es me off the most is that his car needs paint right now and he is still going to re - paint it Silver You should wait until he gets his painted then... if his goes in for paint, he might decide to change the color to the same as yours.

He may get comments like you do, except he enjoys them "Hey that was a sweet wheelie you did at the track last weekend" while you have to constantly hear about the bonehead stuff he does. He also may like the fact that when he gets bitched at for doing his boneheaded stuff he can blame it on you... so if he's going in for paint, wait a while.

Like others said, when you put yours away for the winter, make sure you let him know it's being painted green or red... anything different than what you really want. If he copies that, then you can keep yours silver :D

I'm afraid that you are going to have to spring for an expensive, 1-off custom paint job with graphics, artwork and lots of custom colors. The copycat won't be able to handle it.

A friend used to have a nice '68 GMC pickup. He painted it dark green and it looked nice. Well, another guy at school painted his '70 GMC almost the same colour. Well, the friend decides to repaint his truck charcoal gray after installing a nice '70 Chevy front clip. Don't you know the copycat turns around and paints his truck charcoal gray.

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, but c'mon...

If he copies that - get it over with and accept his marriage proposal :)

See if you can round him up and talk to him.

Make sure you tell him very clearly the new paint code you will be painting yours. Make sure it is a number or name that would be easy to remember. Then let him repaint his.
