No 9`s...I`ll just get that out of the way first off.
Didn`t expect it to happen anyway, no dissapointments here .

Set timing to 36 degrees and left it there. No jetting adjustments. Completely filled the tank, topped it off to try and help traction.

Here`s the run down:

1st pass... Car spun the tires HARD with a 1.54 60 FT.
Down track it was a "slip n` slide ride" really squirrelly, on the rev limiter 2x, taking up the whole lane side to side not good btw... ran 10.74 @ 125 MPH

2nd pass... ANOTHER 1.54 60 FT!! Not as bad down track this time...10.41 @ 128 MPH

3rd pass... Made a shock adjustment in back and driving it out instead of just matting it... slightly better 1.498 60 FT. Car went pretty straight on that run posting a much improved... 10.21 @ 131 MPH

4th and final run... Bumped the shift light up from 5800 RPM to 6000 RPM and left soft again, here`s that last run:

60` ...1.478 ET
330 ...4.182
1/8 ...6.496 @ 105.89 MPH
1000 ...8.504
1/4 ...10.20 @ 132.08 MPH

The motor was trapping at 6600-6700 rpm (hyd roller)

According to plan, we purposely left the suspension untouched from last spring.
Now the SSM bars and the original 36 yr old mono leafs will be jettisoned.

Caltrac`s with new leaf springs are now going on. Hopefully we can get it to 60` where it needs to be!!

All in all, Guys we ended up having a decent night IMHO. I`m encouraged by this first outing with the new motor.

Now all we need is some tight 60 fts in the high 1.3`s and some nice cool dry air and we might have a shot at the 9`s.

Here`s a couple pics heading out, and at the track

Now the fun begins, Steve. Tuning the suspension...
No doubt that once you get it dialed in, nine's are yours.
Curious...What does the Camaro weigh?

Nice work!
You are right where I'm at......and I too an looking to make suspension upgrades for next year.
Along with a bigger exh and a new conv.
We better both get those 9's next year.
I'm also very interested in the CalTrac Split mono leaf solution.....

how are you getting the hydro roller to rev that high?

Steve,
Any more near future plans to take the car out again?
Mike (GA69) and myself kind of kicked around the idea of Moroso the weekend after Thanksgiving...weather permitting..."on the way home" from the Turkey Rod Run.
Anything going on that weekend down there?

Personally, I`m thinking the ramps on this cam must allow it to rev pretty good. The valves are also 2.25`s not 2.19`s.
Valve spring pressure is 150 lbs on the seat that`s all I can say.

Bill...We take in the Rod run too in fact we`ve driven this Camaro to it with my wife tucked in between the rear bars in the back seat!.

You can check out the calender here:

Like to see you come down our way.

!0.20's aint bad. Heck of alot better than what I'm running right now. I'd be tickled if mine could back out of the garage under it's own power.

BTW, your car looks killer.

Impressive times and nice looking Camaro. Got a couple questions.

Isn't 3500+ pounds kinda heavy for a 69 Camaro? I don't know, it just seems heavy.

In shooting for the 9's are there any tech upgrades you will need to do to keep the car racing?
Is your camaro running mini tubs? Those tires look a little big for a standard style rear suspension setup.

Looked at a 69 in PDX today that had a ladder bar setup that looked pretty cool (rear setup) . I used to not like green but this one looked okay other than a bunch flaws in the paint.

Good Luck for the 9's

There are scores of 67-68 Camaros running small blocks that weigh in the 3200-3300 lb range.

The 69`s do weigh a little more.
Add the big block Gen VI weight difference, a stout Dana 60 in place of the 10 or 12 bolt etc..ect...= 3500+ lbs

If a car runs 9`s then yes improvements have to be made for safety.

Yes, there are mini tubs in it, about 3.0" was added to each side, actually looks factory you`d hardly know it.

The tires are 295/65/15 BFG`s

THATS AWESOME MAN, get those caltracks on there, we have some guys going 1.3 60fts on a street tire with 440 treadware so they work, even pulling the left front tire.
