Decided to hit Cecil County Dragway as a last minute thing with my bud.
Could only get 2 runs in though. I was hoping to get into the 12's. With the 3" Pypes system and the 84's in the back, this car is a complete monster now and it makes almost too much power off the line. It really needs to be eased off the line now

60' ET MPH
1st run) 2.69 14.3 104.25

2nd run) 2.40 13.39 107.56

The first run the car went side ways off the launch, and sideways when I hit 2nd

The 2nd run I lowered tire pressure to 20lbs, and put a yellow spring in hoping to loose some torque. I eased off the line, although it was still spinning, I just held it till it caught. I know my 60' is what is holding me back, and radial t/a's aren't the best tire for this sort of this thing. I was complaining a month ago about 2.2 60' - I wish I could have that back, I might broke into the 12's! Between the jets and exhaust I gained over 4 mph. If my 60' was better, I may of had a better mph also.

Can somebody calculate HP for me? Thanks!

http://www.hardcore50.com/members/calculators.htm Here's some calculators that you can use. Congrats on the new bests,,,,mid 12's pretty easy if you can get it hooked up.

Thanks Bob...nice link too!

107.59 MPH with a 2.40 60' time!!!!. You're going to need some drag radials and some practice launching - and my guess, some suspension work.

Congrats. , if you can put that power to the floor you will be running mid 12's.

Vince,nice job
I bet most of the gain was in the exhaust swap.
What mufflers are you using?
Get some sticky tires!! :)

Great MPH!
Like everyone else has said...get some better tires and mid 12's are yours. BFG TA's are the worst as far as traction. :(

Thanks for the nice words. Chris, I'm still running the StreetPros, I have the Magnaflows in the garage still - maybe I'll get them on this weekend. I just downloaded my AFR from the LM-1 and interestingly enough, the car is still lean 3 and 4th. Maybe it still needs more jet?

Another observation, I was talking to a guy who had a nice 70 Charger, he was using BFG Comp T/A (like what was on my IROC), and he was cutting consistent 1.8 60's, and a best of 1.6. He says he likes the street manners and wear characteristics of this tire over the drag radials. I would run them but I don't think they have a Raised white letter version. Any comments?

Nice MPH! Did you make any other changes besides the 3in Exhaust and Carb jetting to pick it up 4mph? I need to find 2-4 MPH, and pick up at least .1 in my 60 to get that 11.xx time slip. There could be an exhaust upgrade in my future.

Cmt, no other changes, but those changes are pretty big IMO. I may actually have picked up more than 4 mph, but my 60' are getting worse. I think the exhaust defintely made a difference, but the jetting also was a big deal.

Here's the interesting part. 107.5 MPH with 28" tall tire and 3.31 gear. You have a stick so converter slippage is out of the question. Puts you through the traps at about 4266 RPM. Motor peak HP is at 5200 (if I have that right). A 3.73 only gets you to about 4700 or thereabouts. Makes me think that with more gear you could be up around 110MPH.

 12`s with traction no doubt

Joe, I'm actually crossing the line at ~5500 rpms according to my AFR meter.

Do you think I could run 110 w/a decent 60', like 1.8-2.0?

Congrats on the new best Vince! Like everyone else has said , get some
sticky tires. A 1.8 60 would be mid 12's easy.
Looks like the exhaust system change really helped.
So how crowded was Cecil today? I think there was some Pony car event
there.

Hey Vince. Nice car.

IMO, Cecil doesn't have the best track prep though I like it there a lot. There is never a crowd and you can get a lot of runs in on a Sat. Have yo gone to Maple Grove? I was there last Sat. and I hooked real good. Big difference vs. Cecil on how they prep the surface. The only problem there is the crowd. A LOT of kids with their Imports. Bewtween that and all the people breaking on the track I only got 3 runs in. Looks like slicks are in your future.

Maybe I'll see ya down there.

Jim and Dave,

Cecil was pretty crowded... I left at 9pm. I got there at 5:30, only 2 runs. A Mustang lost its wheel on take off which shut the track down for a while. I want to try Maple at some point - I was hoping it would be less crowded there.

The track wasn't so hot. A lot of people with real machines were complaining. Didn't help that it was like 35 degrees.

Was the difference between "street car racing" and "test n tune"? I was wondering if it would be better to go during the week rather than a Friday or Saturday.

VInce,

107.59 mph @ 5500 RPMS with a 27" - 28" tall tire = 4.10 gears, unless you are only trapping in 3rd gear. Did I perhaps miss that part of the scenario?

You might be right Joe. Im pretty sure though that I'm in the 5k range, but I wasn't paying attention. Last time I was out, I was watching the tach and I know I was in the 5400 range cause I was watching the tach, but I ran a 103.

My clutch may be slipping, or my tach is off (probably is actually).

Vince,

I have noticed a big difference between test 'n tune days and Friday night street racing with regard to track surface and the crowd. You pay a little more for the Sat. t'nt but its worth it in my opinion. My biggest problem is the crowd which leads to lots of time in the staging lanes and more breakdowns. That said, Sat at the Grove was horrible, there was a rediculous amount of cars, it was a long day. I sat in the staging lanes for 2 hours before each run. 50% of the cars were 16 sec. Ricers. I have nothing against Imports but I do think they should have thier own days for the track. I saw a lot of "real machines" get back on there trailer after one pass. A lot of guys were p!ssed off and complaining.

Highly doubt you have 20% variance in RPM in 4th gear at 107 MPH. No two ways about it, most likely you've got 4.10's in there.

Joe, just to add fuel to the fire - I definetly have 3.31's, I confirmed that when I was servicing the diff.

Try this - at 3500 I'm doing 70. How does that add up?

Jim, are you an Aston native? Thats where I grew up.

Yup. I grew up in Aston. I live in Boothwyn now.

GRN69CHV
Nov 13th, 05, 3:52 PM
Vince. it doesn't add up. You have 4.10 gears.

5500 in 4th gear = 107.50 MPH W/ 4.10 gears.

at 70 MPH
3.31 = 88
3.73 = 78
4.10 = 71

Joe

Vince mentioned he definitely has 3.31s, hes had the differential cover off and verified the ratio.

keep in mind that the mph is an average number taken from the last so many feet(not sure on how many feet). so even though the time slip says 107.5 he would be going faster than that by the time he crossed the line.

add that to the fact his tach is probably off, you can see that there would be a discrepancy in the numbers.

Vince

nice job!! get some sticky tires on that car, get those 60fts down and see what that thing will do.
