I am installing a solid roller cam in my small block and I have the dial indicator set to zero on the base circle (when I can turn it over with no indicator movement). When I turn the crank shaft clockwise just before the intake lobe begins to open and move the indicator up, the dial indicator goes from zero to 4 thousands below zero, and then begins to rise to my .050 where I take the reading. It appears that this point on the cam is lower than the rest of the base circle??? Is this correct, I would assume that the lobe would begin to rise immediately of the base circle reading of zero.

Just curious about what brand of cam your using. We are starting to think this is an upcoming issue to be pointed out. We're finding many with up to .004" on the "heel". Not good! Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. Just recently we had 2 blanks "loaded" with porousity on the "toes" right out of "CMC". Somebody's asleep at the wheel.

It is a Lunati solid billet roller, small base circle, that they ground about a month and a half ago. The net lobe lift checks out to be -.006 less than advertised also. Maby UDHarold would know? I have it degreed to .25 of a degree of where I want it.

Most everything will have about .001 dip just before the opening ramp. I have never checked one with as much as .004. Most will check +or-.002 for the lobe lift, usually on the negative side. I would let Lunati know about this much variation. Is it a custom grind or a catalog cam? We are hearing the major cam companies contract some of the catalog grinds out of house. If you order a custom cam it should be an in house grind.

it was a custom grind.

sstye,

It could be a measurement error, but to be sure, send it back with the offending lobes marked, and ask them to check it out.
