i did a search on this, but didn't find what i was looking for.... is there some kind of wiring schematic for hooking up an aftermarket stereo? somewhere along the line the entire stereo harness was taken out of my '69 so i will need to be re-wiring the entire thing. i went to circuit city and a few other stores to see if the guys there could help me, but no can do. the main thing that is giving me problems is i bought the head unit from my brother so i have no instructions and there must be 20 wires running from the thing and i don't know stereos to begin with. anybody have any suggestions?? TIA

-Jay

(MODS- i wasn't sure if i should put this in electrical or here so if it is in the wrong spot feel free to move it)

Should be a constant 12V, ignition, ground and 8 speaker wires. Some might have a lead for a remote amp turn on and also might have pre-amp outputs for the amp. It's pretty simple, just follow the instructions.

Jay what head unit do you have and have you checked online for a manual? Constant 12V can be achieved from the orange wire(like cigarette lighter) if the radio power wires or plug are still under the dash the yellow is power, gray is lights, and black is ground if memory serves me correct.

On my son's Alpine unit this is where the wires go:

Blue- power ant
Blue/white- remote turn on(for amp)
Pink/Black- audio interupt in
Red- ignition
Yellow- Battery(for constant power, saves memory and time settings on radio)
Black- ground

Gray - pos right front
Gray/?- neg right front

Violet- pos right rear
violet/?- neg right rear

Green- pos left rear
green/?- neg left rear

White- pos left front
white/?- neg left front

Of course your wiring scheme/colors may differ but this give you an idea. Goo luck. Pete
