Was the inside of the trunk painted 'before' or 'after' the back seat/trunk divider was installed? In other words, should there be spatter paint overspray on the back side of the divider in the holes for the package support?

Appreciat it.

I believe it was painted before the divider was put in. I've never seen an original with any over spray on it.

That's kind of what I thought Rich, thanks.

After just completeing my 65's trunk, I had some questions myself. I had to buy 6 cans of splatter paint to coat the trunk evenly and thouroughly. It even could use another coat or two to tell the truth! This slpatter paint is water based and very 'thin'. Did the factory also use a water based splatter paint? They must have. It would have taken a week for the thickness applied in the originals to dry thoroughly. I'm thinking the trunks must have been sprayed by hand immediatly after the body was painted.
Don't you all wish we had a Chevelle factory worker from the 60's around here?

Well Jimmy, I just finished mine a couple of hours ago myself and it took six cans. My memory must be slipping, I thought it dried quicker than this, maybe because it is hot and humid today. Will likely have to wait until tomorrow or Sunday to spray on the sealant.

A good friend of mine, who lives in Phoenix, welded the braces inside the trunk of EVERY Chevelle built in Kansas City on the day shift from '67 thru '70 then became a line 'boss' there for many more years. He is always pointing things out to me.

Hey Guys,

Aword of help and caution... The fact that the Spatter Paint is water based it is not very durable. Which means if you get any water in your trunk either from rain, general washing or even wet sanding your exterior paint job the spatter paint will have a tendency to lift. Find your self some semi flat clear and top coat your trunk.

My trunk looked perfect when I finished it until I wet sanded my paint and some water puddled in the trunk. Had to reshoot the bad areas which doesn't match exactly now and then cleared over the entire trunk. Fortunately the trunk mat hides most of the respray.

I also sprayed before installing the trunk devider board.

Just FWIW, Advance Auto Parts and probably other local parts stores carry Plasticoat clear "spatter" paint sealer. It's cheap and you can buy a bunch of it to liberally coat the spatter paint after it's dry.
