: Engine paint and misc?

Wife has decided that the 70 is going to be bright yellow with dark blue.

I/she wants to paint the engine Yellow. I know por has a engine paint kit in Chevy orange but she wants yellow like the body color. What kind of paint do I use? Do I prep it like the exterior, i.e., prime before top coat. Would a single stage be better than BC/CC? HELP! :confused:

she has come up with an idea kinda like that one Boyd's roadster, yellow with a dark blue hood and fender tops. It is a 70 Malibu so it had the chrome molding that runs from the bottom of the rear wing window just below the top line of the body to a point at the front fender. I have the rear quarter moldings and the door moldings in good condition. The front ones are toast. Anyone repoping this molding or have it lying around at a reasonable price?

The car originally had a vinyl top. I had intended to leave it off, but have been thinking that if I'm gong to two tone it this way maybe a very dark blue vinyl top might look good. If not I'll have the roof yellow and only the area between the drip rail and the above the aforementioned trim the dark blue. What do you guys think?

As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Clean it really good then apply epoxy primer and then SS urethane.

As for the two tone I like the idea. Even had the same idea for my 70 project, but would have been differnet shades of yellow.

I do have a complete set of mouldings in great shape

Thanks for your reply. I use PPG products, do they sell a good epoxy primmer? As for the trim any chance you want to part with them?

PPG sells DPLF which is a good epoxy. Comes in about 5-6 different colors.
EPX900 is also a good epoxy sold by PPG but in the industrial line. From what I hear and ask from the reps its a better product then the DPLF and at a cheaper price.

Baseclear would work just as good but SS is easier, its one step. One thing to remember when painting an engine keep the paint buildup down. Apply just enough paint.

As for the mouldings I have the two front fenders, doors, 1/4 moulding and also a vinyl top set.

Let me think about the mouldings, Ill get back to you...Eric

Thanks guys. I have the top trim in good shape, all I really need is the fender top trim but will take all at a reasonable price.

Hey guys;

I've got a 70 'bu and will be removing the trim on the psss fender. Looks to be in good shape, but the driver side was off already and looks like it was pried off. It's a little warped, but not too bad.

If anyone is interested in them, email me. I'm more in to seeing that parts get used than making a huge profit on them, as pnut knows...
