I'm trying to remove the body and the square nuts keep turning. I welded the one on the very front to the body it started to work then the bolt broke. I soaked the front one since october every chance with PB Blaster but it didnt help.
If I would use a hole saw maybe 2". Could I cut the hole in the floor, weld the square nut to the body and either break the bolt or remove it, then when I go back with it just collect all the circles I hole sawed and weld them in.
Ive broke 2 bolts and the others just spin. I neeeeed help. Thanks
Chris

Chris,

That's exactly what you are going to have to do. Cut a hole above the nut to get it out of there. Then as you say weld a patch over the hole later.

One thing when it comes time to replace those bolts dont just weld nuts over the holes. You need to replace them with cage nuts or body nuts that is what is on your car now. You need the adjustment that the cage nuts give you, if you just weld nuts to it you might not be able to get the body back on the frame straight. The only place that I know of that sells those cage nuts is Ground Restorations they sell for around 6 bucks.

The cage and the nut is a little smaller so you wont get the adjustment like you would from the originals but you can enlarge the hole on the cage to get some extra movement. One tip when replacing those is after you got them welded in place its best to tack weld the sides together, this will keep the sides from splitting apart and allowing that nut to turn freely...Eric

Thanks for your help. One more question... you mentioned body alingment. Is there a way to mark the body on the frame now so when I go back It will be OK.

Sevt-chevelle, I bought this car when I lived in IOWA. Those Iowa winters were sure hard on my nuts http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif . Thanks again guys.
