Hi. I am hoping that someone can answer a question for me. I am looking a purchasing a 1966 convertible chevelle with no engin, trans, and the frame is bad. No problem for the engine and trans. My question is this. Can a frame be swapped? If so, how difficult is it? I don't have alot of mechanical skill but am willing to pay. They are asking $1000 for the car. Is it worth it? Thanks for any help.

Depends on the true condition of all the panels, including floor and how much is there. If there is NO evidence of crash damage and NO rust anywhere and its ALL there except for engine and trans, including ALL trim and interior, its probably worth it. But offer less. The only reasons the frame would be bad are rust or BIG crash. So if its so bad why is the body good? That's what you have to find out.

The car looks to have light body rust... I have only seen a picture, however everything is there. I am assuming that it is rust, but I will find out the particulars. Thanks for giving me something to go on!

A frame swap is really easy. I just recently completed my first frame off and now looking back it was a piece of cake. Just as long as you have the working space and proper tools. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Even if you have to buy some tools, still cheaper and WAY more fun and satisfying then having to pay someone else.
If the rest of the body is in decent shape...go for it!
Where's it rusted out? In the bend below the firewall, I'd bet.

IMO. The Frame specfic 66/64 Conv or Elcameno( you need to cut a shorten the ELKY frame) Are a Big project. If you have the tools time place and $$$$ Go for it. conv frames are getting harder and harder to come by and costing more.
I just sold my 66 Conv a 4peed bucket seat 327 NOM cherry frame needing only minor floor work for $4500. IT was ALL there and with little effort would be driving.
