Hello all, The other day we were pulling our 67 SS "project" out of the storage container and I noticed a little filler near the center of the roof. I decided to hit it with a slap wheel and discovered that the filler was "closing" a series of small holes in the roof, near the center. Damn vinyl tops! The previous owner decided to use duct tape on the underside (hidden by the headliner) as a backstop for the filler on the top. Since I have a hard time accepting that as a real "repair", I'm tempted to get another roof. If I do that, I'd sure like to know how many others have done it to their project. If so, how might one remove the old one? We all know about the lead-filled seams at the sail panels, but what about the extruded edge around the entire top (i.e. the drip rail)? The holes that are there now are not that bad, I just can't bring myself to drive a car with a "bondo hat." I tried doing a little MIG stitching with a copper back plate, but the results were not good with the welds sticking to the copper.
Can the holes be patched with repair sections? If so, should the patches be radiused rather than square for some reason? It looks like we'd need around 6 or 7 small patches between the size of a .50 cent piece down to a quarter.
Thanks for any advice!
