Does anyone have any reason I shouldn't vat my fenders to remove old paint.

The only problem I have w/ dipping cars to strip them is that there are going to be large areas where you are not going to be able to get paint or primer back over the exposed bare metal and rust will take over quickly in those areas. Areas like insid rocker panels, deep inside door shells, etc. are the areas I am talking about. Your fenders will also have areas....at the rear where the brace runs down the back edge. And at the top inner edge where the inner portion of the fender is attatched. The vatting will remove any corrosive protection from those areas and you will not be able to recoat them.

When cars are built at the factorys they are dipped into different solutions after the bare metal is cleansed. These liquid solutions provide the phosphate and primer coatings needed to protect the metal....and because they are liquid and the bodies and parts are submerged in the solutions every nook and cranny is protected. These steps likely arent going to be done to your "restored' parts and spray guns just cant get in and around those nooks and crannies.

I have no idea. I guess you could call some of the local resto shops (Brickyard, Ventura, Bucks Classics)and see who they recommend, or call Bill Rose he may have a handle on that type of work.

The Chevelle Club (http://www.okchevelle.com/)along with most of Tulsa meet at Backyard Burgers every Tuesday, somebody out there may know also.
