I am constructing a paint booth. It is about 25' by 25'. I have two big exhuast fans that move alot of air(not the walmart box fans). I am going to use a 3M mask with a good fit and filters. I also want to construct a hood/mask and plumb in fresh air. I am not going to spend $400 for one. Has anyone made there own? I have ideas on how to make it, just want to see if anyone else has tried this.

If you have good enough ventilation that the fumes go out as soon as you spray I dont think you would need a fresh air system. If you want one I would spend the money, $400 is dirt next to a hospital bill.

You can get the setup that filters the air from your compressor into breathable air and runs into a mask for about $200.Not as good as the full fresh air system but better than a homemade job.

Use a shop vac, put it outside and have the outlet going into some kind of container like a 55 gal drum then run a hose from the drum to your mask so it won't blow your face off http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

I have never made a fresh air hood but if you have enough air moving out of the booth and also fresh air coming in the booth via filters in your door you should be ok with a quality resporator another thing that will make a big difference is to use a hvlp gun instead of a conventional one.I have done a fair amount of spraying in a homemaid booth with very good results
