This crate looks pretty good. 454 425HP 500 ft. lb. of torque, and the original accesorries bolt right up for $4800.

I'd like to hear some opinions if anybody has purchased one of these.

Thanks.

Check the search feature. I have seen talk about this engine over the months and I swear I remember something about someone saying you are VERY limited to how much bigger cam you can install on the set up. Compression is 8.75

Great motor for a great price. You can run 12's easy, and it idles nice too.

If your looking to substantially modify it, build your own motor b/c it is not cost effective due to the low-compression and some other issues.

I purchased my 70 Chevelle with a 454 HO that had been modified (valvetrain& intake). Also, a Big Shot 275 HP nitrous kit. The guy that owned it before me raced it on the street. Then I had it for another 3 years spraying it here and there. Ran flawless and very fast on that nitrous! All I did was change oil and lash the valves. I sold it still running great.
It has a real strong bottom end from the factory. The cam I had in it was a .606 lift solid cam and a Edelbrock Victor Jr intake. As far as stock performance, cant help you there, but I'd say performance potential and relialbility are excellent.
Good luck!

It's basically a GenVI version of the '71 LS6 motor with a hyd roller cam.

See now that sounds perfect to me. I'm not really interested in setting up a big cam 500HP thumper that dosent idle and makes my power brakes weak. If I can take that motor and make an honest 400+HP with my vintage M22, exhaust manifolds, LS6 intake and carb, that'll do just fine.

Just paint it Chevey Orange and drop it in.

If I can get nice idle and decent 12 range performace all in a reliable fresh GM assembled motor, that will do nicely.
