Ok i am in the process of getting my car painted, it's currently in the shop getting bodywork done. i am trying to figure out what to do.
1. I want a dark blue colour but i want the colour to be more of a black blue and not a purple blue.
2. I need to know what style paint job i need to make the crowns seem lighter in direct sunlight and the low points to look darker.
3. I don't want the paint to be overly metallic when i was talking to the bodyman he suggested candy style paint job with a silver flake under the paint. i think this may be much too sparkly for what i want.
4. Will candy always come out flakey looking or can you do it so the mettallic is minimal.
input would be great and any suggestiond of paint colours that sound like what i described would be great

Just a suggestion, take a ride down to your local auto body supplier and take a look at some paint charts. Most suppliers are willing to help you out. A lot of the new "factory pearls" are real nice. You might also want to get a couple charts from "House of Kolor" and "Metalflake", they both offer nice "candies" and "pearls", and some suppliers also carry them as well. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Check out the second set of pictures in my bodyshop update in my sig.
Color is Chrysler Patriot Blue Pearl Coat. Primarily used on the 2001-2002 mini-vans and Dakota pick-ups.

17Again - That's my point about the "factory" paints. The "Patriot Blue" is a sharp color and looks real good on your ride. The only problem is that the pic's do not do it justice. It's something that needs to be seen up close. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I think that our friend from up north would like it. graemlins/beers.gif

TJW, I agree, I walked through the dealerships looking at the different variations of blue that are close to this color. Up close you can see the blue and black hues from different angles. Even the stripes which are Bright Silver Metallic change from silver to white to grey depending on how the light is hitting them. The pics were also taken just before sunset, now that I have the car almost put together it's been raining constantly so I can't get any good sunlight pics posted.
Oh and thanks for the compliment graemlins/thumbsup.gif , when I first saw the paint scheme on my car from about 50 feet away I could see that it would be a love hate combination--you either love it or hate it. I LOVE IT! graemlins/hurray.gif It is also a color combo that I haven't seen on any chevelles.

Silver stripes? Hmmmmm. I LIKE IT. graemlins/beers.gif

It's sounds like you want a candy paint job from what you described. I think your bodyman is right also. You can pick the silver base in different size flakes so it can be course or fine to control the "flakeness" of it. Keep in mind that your asking for one of the hardest types of paint to paint correctly and it will be next to impossible to ever repair any damage without a complete repaint.

17again that's a sweet color, i want that but even darker again (of course i wont have stripes being 4 door and all) the bule on the new sunfires that is really nice. but i really want a paintjob that's going to POP, i mean like i want to look into the pain and feel like i am going to fall into it. but i have see a few candy paint jobs around here and i really don't like these big flakes i want more along the lines of this.

I know the color, looks almost black at an angle, blue direct on. Check out the paint codes for Harley Davidson, they have a couple of these types of paints.
