: Used 4 wheelers?
jjsledd Nov 2nd, 05, 1:22 PM I'm just starting to look at used 4 wheelers. Curious as to anyones opinion on makes/models you like or don't like. I'm looking for a full size sport type, not work/farm, and also one for a small kid (50-70cc). Thanks for any info!!!
ssal396 Nov 2nd, 05, 1:29 PM Depends on what you want to do with it, & where you want to ride it.. Do you want 4x4?? I like the Polaris Scrambler for all purpose riding, it's totally automatic & 4 wheel drive.. It will crawl through or climb over anything, yet it's still a good handleing bike..

Mostly fun and trial riding, don't really need 4x4 but I wouldn't count it out.
1970SS396&1967 Nov 2nd, 05, 3:44 PM Ive got an old Yamaha Moto 4 and its been great!!!Mostly just trail riding and movin stuff around the yard.
I have an 01 Yamaha Raptor 660 and like it a lot. Spent a lot of time on Banshees before it and love the 4 stroke torque and fuel usage compared to a 2 stroke power band and fuel consumption. I can ride all day on the dunes on about 3 gallons of fuel.. Only have to go back to camp to wait on my buddy's Banshee fill up. Another riding buddy has a Polaris predator and his wife rides a Honda 400EX and they look to be good quads. Out of the 3 I like my Raptor the best. Been thinking about the Raptor FI 700. I don't know why, the 660 in 5th gear wide open on the beach is a hairy ride
BillsCamino Nov 2nd, 05, 5:06 PM I've got an old Honda TRX that is used a couple times a year as a pit bike.
Never fails to start...
Now that I've said that, I think I'll go out and crank 'er up. ;) It's been a while...
72silverchevelle Nov 2nd, 05, 6:01 PM 2005 Raptor 350. Great quad with good power and speed. I can go anywhere I want with it. The 660's are like rockets and if you are looking for just some weekend riding I would reccomend the 350.

I still have my 87 Quadsport i bought new in 87. Its a fun quad for sure for the dollar. I think i gave $2000 for it new. I have been thinking of upgrading to something newer as well. I really like the new Suzuki 400's

SSchevy400 Nov 2nd, 05, 8:07 PM It depends really....I like the Raptors or the Banshees. I personally own a 03 Banshee, and i LOVE it. I love the powerband of a 2 stroke. Yeah my buddys that have raptors can ride wheelies all day, but after an aftermarket exhaust, they cant hang with me anymore in a drag. On trails they tend to get around a little easier.
BowtieAaron Nov 2nd, 05, 8:19 PM i have an 89 kawasaki mojave. its a decent quad. its a 250cc 4stroke, water cooler.its got some guts, fastest 250 4stroke made. and beats blasters, and hangs, if not beats honda 300ex's.
the kawasaki kfx and the suzuki z400's are real nice bikes. they are the same thing, just different colors and names. my friends races moto x with a z400, he has it punched out to a 440, 13.5:1cr piston in it, cammed up, ported head runs off 108. very killer quad. they do have reverse and are electric start.
raptors arnt bad, my friend has one, he loves it. warriors are ok (or the new raptor 350, which is the same thing), they are ok i guess. decent power, but still a 4 stroke.
if you want 2 stroke, get either a banshee, or an old honda 250r. banshees are twins with 2 carbs, 350cc, and very fast. the 250r's are single 250cc engines, and man, do those rip.
im not one for the polaris's, they seem to be the ford of the quads, and so are the hondas.
maybe look into the yamaha yfz 450 if u want somthing that is realy quick for stock and 4stroke..
as for the kid. kfx80, or a breeze. they are small and under 100cc's. might seem like alot, but with all that weight, thats not much cc's at all.
i have to rebuid mine, its knocking in the bottom end (hopefully its just a broken piston), and after i fix it, i may ride it alittle and sell it. i want somthing bigger and faster. (its actually kind of a small quad, will not fit someone over 5'10).
good luck, let us know what u get.

exaclty. my friend just sold is 01 banshee. fmf sst exhaust, 36mm carbs, new clutch, reeds, fullbore plastics, custom stiched seat (with flames). really fast quad. but he got sick of mixing gas, and missed the lowerend power. so he is buying my friends 04 YFZ450, that comes with an extra set of beadlocks, tires (pure sport realtors), and some other little stuff.

Steve1972 Nov 3rd, 05, 9:13 AM I have an 02 Raptor 660 and 02 Honda 300ex. I love my Raptor, the torque is unbelievable. If you are doing alot of slow trail riding with kids, the raptor maybe too much, when I do I spend all day in 1st or 2nd gear. I think the raptor is pretty much bullet proof except they had transmission trouble in 2001 if I remember right. The 300ex is good except it is small machine. The 400ex is good, but no reverse.
I've always been a Honda or Yamaha fan, but for a good all around trail quad with reverse and electric start I've heard good things about the Suzuki 400, Kawasaki 400 or Arctic Cat 400 sport quad, all the same machine with different plastic
Good Luck:thumbsup:.

jjsledd Nov 3rd, 05, 9:51 AM Great info guys, thanks!!! It will probably be awhile before I am able to get one, but this will definitely help in my search. How new and big of one I get will be decided by how much money I'm willing to pull away from chevelle projects next year, which is a bummer. But gotta sacrifice if I want to start an off-road motorsport with my boys. Thanks again!
onabudget Nov 3rd, 05, 11:29 AM If your just doing some trail riding don't get sucked in with the real big engines, drives the price up to high.
I like 3-wheels myself, gives you more 'feel' of riding a bike. I'm partial to Hondas 3 or 4 wheels they run forever with little maintenance.
I have a 85 Honda 200. If I get another I'll go for a Big Red at 250cc.
My kids ride the cheapo chinese quads. Kazuma 50's and up. They are cheap and you won't get so aggrivated when they thrash 'em up. As they get more responsible they I'll move on to a brand name. Raceway ATV online is a great place for the chinese quads and they drop ship anywhere. They have a knowledgable staff and won't steer you wrong.

Are those Kazumas durable? I have also heard it's hard to get parts for them, what's been your experience? I had been looking at some of them but was told of parts and maintenance issues.
 Cool pic of the chevelle pulling the 3 wheeler. Maybe I should put a hitch on my '67, then if I ever get around to actually taking it to the track I could pull the quad along as a pit bike.:D One step at a time, I got to get a quad first.

I ve had an Ignition module go bad. 45 bucks. I also had a cracked filler neck on the fuel tank (90.00)
We bought 4 of them about 3 years ago, one for my kids, and 3 for my neices and nephews. Mine is the only one with any repairs. And mine has had the middle amount of use. The two with less use have had no repair or maintenence issues. The one with the most use...and a lot of abuse has had no issues other than valve adjustments and oil changes.
Raceway ATV stocks a full line of parts for them, they also have some other brands of cheapos. If you considering a chinese atv for the kids I would give them a call and let them know your concerns with choosing the atv thats right for your kids.
BTW the quads in the pic are kazuma 50's. Kids fit on them from 4 up to about 8 years old tops. 8 is pushing it, they are very small.

What did you end up getting if you did get one?

atlantaboy Mar 6th, 06, 12:15 AM I missed this thread the first time around. Did you get anything? If you still want opinions let me know, I grew up on fourwheelers. Chevelles and fourwheelers take turns as my favorite hobby.

Umass Mar 6th, 06, 12:36 AM get your self a honda trx 250R or a suzuki quad racer 250. both have limitless power potential and if you like to tinker an build two strokes these bikes are great. personally i HATE 4 strokes smaller than 300 cubic inches. so 4 stroke 4 wheelers are not an option for me. a guy i know of builds suzuki lt 250 quad racers with big bore 650 cc quadzilla motors in the 250 chassis..... absolutly sick...

Sorry to say, but I haven't got anything yet. I was about to lay down money for a fixer upper when some unexpected expenses came up.
Now I'm starting to get the itch again, for a 4 wheeler and to work on the Chevelle, since spring is around the corner.
Thanks for asking!
