: Plastic inner fenderwells discontinued from Ground Up
10sec69 Jul 17th, 02, 1:05 PM Hey gang,
Just a heads up. I called Ground Up to order a set of plastic inner fenderwells to replaced the cracked ones on my car. They said that they've completely dropped them from their line because of the poor quality of what's being made. They've even tried a second supplier and have seen the same quality/fitment problems. Knowing that most of these vendors get their products from the same manufacturers, I didn't even bother looking to another vendor.
I only wanted the plastic ones because that's what was on my car originally and they look a little better (until they crack). But now, hearing what's being made out there, I had no problem switching to steel.
For what it's worth!

Captain Crankshaft Jul 17th, 02, 4:48 PM My car came with plastic inners. I did in fact purchase aftermarket ones.
They didn't fit.
I took them back to the place I got them and was told "you're the first person to ever complain about them. You just need to work with them to make them fit. Redrill these mounting holes"
Well, needless to say, I drilled out the holes, and ended up with ~$300 worth of scrap plastic becaues they STILL didn't fit and now that I had "modified" them they could not be returned.
I bought steel ones and they look perfect.
Live and learn.
I can tell you a similar story about a passenger side outer fender too...

Barista Jul 17th, 02, 5:25 PM My car came with plastic inners too. And, like you, I wanted to go back with plastic just to be true to the original car. I had always heard the repop plastic inners were crap, until now. OPG has a "new tooling" and in the thread linked below TerryS says they work great. AND they're on sale at $100 off, now through the end of August, ($149 per pair on sale). I'm going to order them. Hope he's right!

stevegray Jul 18th, 02, 2:57 PM I installed the plastic ones from OPG on my '72 and the fit was pretty good. Just had to modify a couple of the holes near the front support. I just had to make the holes a little bigger. This was probably because I had to replace both fenders. They look perfect.

Captain Crankshaft Jul 19th, 02, 2:42 PM Just to clear things up, both my inner fenders and outer fenders were the older toolings.
Hope your new stuff is better! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
