My friends dad let me have a 1971 el Camino with a decent body. It's missing the complete front end. A cousin of mine is asking $150 for a clean, complete 1970 front end. You guys think it would be stupid to have a 70 elco with 71 vins and registration?

The only sin would be if you didn't take the deal and RUN before you cousin changes his mind!!!

yeah.. you can sell the front end or trade it for a 71, or you can just put the 71 headlight extensions on the car.. millions of options there (slight exxageration of course)

Heck Beldarr has a '72 with a '71 front clip. (Or is it the other way around?)
Like Wilford Brumley says, "There's just no reason not to."

Is the front clip for an el camino? If not, the fenders and doors will not line up, the el camino fenders are more rounded.

progress has little to do with speed, but lots to do with direction.

I know that being a car enthusiast in SoCal can be tough at times - but what exactly is it that you are concerned with?
1) That the police will impound your car?
2) That show spectators will shame you?
3) That all the other Chevelles will park with their back facing your car?
Relax, the world does not care that much. In fact, I think you should put "71 El Camino" license plate frames on it just to start conversation at shows and cruises!
Sounds like you are going to have some budget El Camino fun - and that my friend is what its all about, having fun with this hobby.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll start working on it tomorrow. What trips me out is that the front rotors have a bunch of holes on them. Was that an option on these cars?
