I bought a new latch for my 69 El Camino but the part on the latch that allows you to unlock/lock the door with the key is not the same length as my old one. According to the part number and original parts group,it should be the same part. The new part is suppose to fit 69 through 72 Chevelles. Anyone ever come accross this problem before or know how to fix it?

Send it back and get a correct one. If you have your original and the new one is different, then it must be wrong. I am not sure exactly what part you are describing that is wrong, but if its wrong, its wrong !

Just looked in my GM parts book. According to GM, 69 & 70 are different than 70 & 71. Year one is also showing different part numbers for 68, 69, and 70-72.

Thanks for the info. I will check with yearone and see what they say. I've had the part for two months now. My bodyman just got around to installing it and discovered that it does'nt work.
