View Full Version : water pump Gen VI?? ckc 189 Oct 28th, 05, 3:28 PM What kind of water pump comes on a stock Gen VI 454? Is it a long ar a short? Thanks novaderrik Oct 28th, 05, 4:40 PM i would assume it would be a long pump, but i think the 572 crate motors come with a short pump.. Steves71 Oct 28th, 05, 6:03 PM Just changed one on my 96 Suburban with the Vortec 454, It is indeed a long pump. Looked Identical to my 402's water pump. Steve mild68ss Oct 28th, 05, 6:26 PM I'm pretty sure the pump that comes on the Gen. VI is the short pump. I used the short pump from my 68 when I put a Gen VI 502 in it. Worked out fine. When I put the 502 in my 69 I changed to a long style pump. I had to cut quite a bit of the casting to make it clear the front cover. Steves71 Oct 29th, 05, 3:31 PM A short pump will work on a Gen VI however most came with the long style, My 96 suburban with the 454 is a long pump. Sallee Chevrolet lists a long water pump that comes on all crate 502 and 454's in their catalog. Steve JWA Oct 29th, 05, 7:22 PM I have a Gen VI bowtie block and it takes either. I'm running an electric  Depending on application not sure if rotation is the same on late model pumps used in a serpentine setup. I know it was different on some small block setups(reverse rotation). ckc 189 Oct 29th, 05, 8:37 PM How can I tell if its a short pump or a long pump, and if its reverse flow or normal? Thanks JWA Oct 30th, 05, 6:24 PM Is the engine a crate or is it out of a rig? If it's out of a rig you'll probably have to go to an autoparts house or the dealer to figure out rotation, not sure myself even on my 99 Burb. The link below has the spec'd size for the difference between long and short: http://www.marchperf.com/cbb_brackets.html ckc 189 Oct 31st, 05, 6:33 PM Does anyone know if its a standard or reverse rotation? It came out of a truck. Its not a crate engine. Thanks |
