I guys I am planning on putting new floor pans in my 65. It also needs rocker metal. Mt question, what goes in first, the rocker metal or the floor pan. I wasnt sure if the floors go over the rocker metal or under. I do have another question. How do you tell if your rusted sheet metal is too rusted to work with. I dont have any holes but I do have some pitted rust on my inner wheel sheet metal. Thanks

floors first then rockers, the question about your rust is pretty much a judgement call. personally I hate rust, rule of thumb for me is if you can wire wheel holes into the sheetmetal in question, its time to go. If you are replacing quarters at this time, those inners and outers are very easy to do while the quarters are off the car. good luck Jason.

Thanks for the reply, I have a 65 Drop-Top and I heard that I have to modify the Inners/Outers from the repros. Any idea how much is involed in Modifying them. My driver side of the vehicle look ok but the passnger side is less to be desired. No rust holes but there is pitted rust. Was wondering, if no holes could I clean up real good and throw on some rust inhib then POR or something. Thanks.

You could get the patch panel for the inner wheel house. Dont know if they are available for a 65 or not but for 69 they cover the re lower section, most common spot to rot for our verts. If they are anything like the 69 inners, be prepared for some major mods. all fine and dandy if you have the patience of the pope. If your not a crazy numbers guy, then I can tell you what my father did years ago (16 to be exact) on my brothers goat Clean it up rust inhibit (brush on kind) then brush on construction glue ( very much like seam sealer 3M makes a wide variety of products today) spray with semigloss; done. If done correctly it will look just as if you have applied undercoating, without having to add any and it will be completely sealed. Worked well on my Bro's car and it's still holding up today, and that thing was sad. Good luck Jason. Oh, on a side note, if you elect to go this route, it wouldnt hurt to put a little flex agent in the paint for longevity sake.

The wheel houses for convertibles are flattened on the top to allow room for the top frame to move. The lesser cars :p do not have this feature, so the wheel houses are basically round.
The inners on the 65 are not an easy place to work.
I'm helping a club member do his 65 Chevelle. Take a peak.
Floors, braces, inner rockers, and kick panels.
A local shop bent patches for the inner rockers.

Be prepared to replace the cage nuts while the floor is out, both at the toe underneath the front of the floor, but the ones at the bottom of the rear fenders.
