sbubby Oct 27th, 05, 5:20 PM guys im in a mess dropping a 67 396 into my chevelle im using bb engine frame mounts and bb motor mounts and the oil pan is hitting and will not allow mounts to line up im using a original 60s oil pan wich i under stand will work on my chevelle im not sure what the prob is maybe the pan maybe the aftermarket motor mounts need help where do i start
drptop70ss Oct 27th, 05, 5:55 PM probably the wrong oil pan, you need a chevelle one with a shorter length sump area.
sbubby Oct 27th, 05, 6:14 PM mercy pulling my hair out heres a pic of my oil pan anyone please help im blaming mounts but may be the pan thanks

136679ss Oct 27th, 05, 6:35 PM I dont have dimensions, but with the naked eye, I would say the pan in my 67 BBC has a longer shallow nose, then slopes to a very small second tier, and then down to the deep end, less squared off than your second tier on the pan. Second, I know your not at that point yet, but I had to muscle my motor mounts a little to get them to seat properly. Good luck Jason.
alss Oct 27th, 05, 6:46 PM I think its your pan. That bump out in the middle must be hitting the cross member. Here is a pic of mine.

ebe326 Oct 27th, 05, 8:52 PM I definitely agree with everyone else. The person i bought my car from actually cut apart new motor mounts and lengthened them to accomodate the same pan you show in your picture. I put a new correct pan on with new motor mounts and everything fits fine. It's that middle 'hump' in the pan.
phocksphyre Oct 27th, 05, 9:14 PM I think that oilpan is for an Impala. Lookit this

This is the type of pan you need.

sbubby Oct 27th, 05, 11:55 PM thanxs guys i just rounded up a correct oil pan tonite will prep it tommorrow and plan on dropping the engine AGAIN early afternoon by the way we had so much trouble installing with the exaust manifolds in place we took the off, has anyone else had the trouble im wondering how hard they will be to install after the engine is dropped thanks RON
67ss Oct 28th, 05, 7:27 AM Make sure you have the correct manifolds. If the manifolds came off the same car as the oil pan ( engine ) it will not fit. If the outlet(s) angle outward then you have imapala or caprice manifiolds. Look in the catalogs online and see if they match the ones offered for the 67's. I went through the same things when I first got mine.
sbubby Oct 28th, 05, 9:42 AM mercy i will prevail over this 396 its veen fun and a learning experience heres the manifolds im using thanks again for the help

htm Oct 29th, 05, 10:38 AM Boy this all sounds to fimilar to me I went through the same thing this past summer...He is what I ended up doing in the long run.....
1st new oil pan for 67 chevelle purchased right from GM for 115.00 bucks
2cd exhaust manifolds from ground up (repos) I replyed to your other post
3rd I started using the small block motor mounts to fit the small block frame mounts on the car,, it fit but i did not feel warm and fuzzy with those skimmpy mounts holding in a BB so I purchased frame and motor mounts from Ground up for a big block...
Finally everything went to gether nicely, learn from my mistakes... Also keep in mind that the steering shaft is different on a BB chevelle than a small block it is a very tight fit. it needs to be out of the way if you install the manifolds with the engine in the car my advise is drop it in with the manifolds on...
Have fun !!! :)
DZAUTO Oct 29th, 05, 11:09 AM OH YA!!!!!!!!!!! You got the wrong ones. Pans and ex manifolds are unique to the Chevelles. Sorry, hope you get it put together OK soon!
