I have some cool looking finned BB valve covers that id like to use on my 68. They are flaking however and pitting. Id like to get them chromed but i dont know where or how to get them done. i dont want to spend hundreds either.
I dont know how old they are, or if they are original to chevys. But they are pretty 'thick' and i love the vintage finned look they have.
So where can i get rechromed, and does anyone know what these covers are? They dont have any names on them but it looks like they had rectangular inserts in the middle of them (that are long gone now). Id like to make my own inserts that say (SS396) like my side markers

I'd guess they are Cal Custom valve covers. Call some bumper shops in your area to find a local plater

They might be Motion valve covers. I had a set once, and they were chrome-plated finned aluminum, and there was a rectangular area in the center of each cover where a Motion emblem was held on with some kind of adhesive (no holes underneath).

Most of the cost involved in rechroming is the prep work. Flaking chrome is not a problem, but polishing a pitted surface on finned valve covers could be expensive. You might want to let them strip them and do the polishing yourself.

If so, they are not Cal Custom (I don't know of a Cal Custom design with a square in the middle). Also, you might be better off buying these new at $100 instead of having yours chrome plated. These are polished aluminum not plated but they look as nice (I've seen them in person).

Gound Up has these for $125. I bought a set and added 454 emblems in the center.
