I am using all PPG products starting with the dx 579 acid etch wash and then DX520 Conditioner I need to prime with a epoxy over the bare metal, PPG recommends their New environmentally friendly DPLV I have heard though that it sucks for bare metal since they had to stop making the old DP90 that adhered to bare metal much better, what can I use as a top shelf good quality bare metal epoxy primer??? I will be shooting DK-36 PPG primer over it and the rest of the car, followed by Deltron 2000 base color and clear.

You sure you got the numbers right, DPLV?, should be DPLF. DK-36?, should be K-36. Unless am missing something but doubt it I came from the PPG site and saw NO products with either name.

Am not a fan of epoxy on bare metal period. I had problems with it, even with the good old DP epoxy and this DPLF is junk in my opinion. Now not saying that the product should NOT be used al all just saying the product to me should not be used as the first step on BARE METAL.

I like etch primer(dx1791) on bare metal FIRST, but in your case you have the metal treatments applied instead. If you read the tech sheets for those treatments it stats that epoxy needs to be applied within the same day. So you do the 2 step metal treatment then apply the epoxy. The 2 step metal treatment and etch primer do the same task but in different ways and NEVER EVER combine the two products.

Also if you read the tech sheets for DPLF epoxy it also stats for MAX performamce the use of etch primer is recommended prior to usage of epoxy to achieve optimum adhesion and corrosion resistance.
So you should be fine as long as you apply an etch primer first or you use that 2 step metal treatment. Thats the method I use when i do use epoxy primer, I first apply my etch primer then epoxy primer.

So if you want a GREAT epoxy primer for BARE METAL well in my opinion you WONT find it in the PPG line. IF I was going to use epoxy on BARE MEATL and thats a big IF Id go with Valspar's VP-40 epoxy or House of Kolor's i believe the number KP 2F, and those epoxies you CAN NOT apply an etch first, they will react with the etch. But am not a fan of epoxy on BARE METAL so Ill stick with appling an etch first(in your case the metal treatments) then shooting my epoxy.

Just another thought try out some K38 instead of K36 I really think you will like it MUCH better then k36...Eric
