My 69 Chevelle manual top is very difficult to put down. It should go relatively easy, but it does not. The previous owner did little lubrication maintenance and I think that is all it needs for a smoother easier operation. Does anyone know what kind of lubrication I should use. I do not want to use any lubrication that would drip on the interior when the top is up.

Take a look at the car. A 396 clone.

pull the rear side covers and remove the springs that hold the top up first, then try moving the top around. If it moves ok with the springs disconnected then the springs are the problem. If it is tight to move with the springs off I would use some white lithium grease in a spray can.
