I think I am correct on this but wanted to get expert advice but....

Won't the rear end from a 1970-1972 Chevelle fit 1969 and 1968 Chevelles but not 1967 or older models?

What about the transmission crossmember?

I'm thinking about if I find a really nice '68-'69 for cheap I might donate the engine/trans/rear from my '71.

All '68 thru '72 rearends are exactly the same.
Also, although slightly wider, the '68-'72 rears will bolt in a '67 or earlier.

Cool. Thanx. That's good to hear. Because if a better candidate comes along I know I'll put all the goody parts to use on the new platform.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to ask....was if the steering column from a '71 fit a '68 or '69? I'm sure it would fit a '70?

Steering column might fit a '68, but it'll look pretty silly. '68 still had the ignition switch/lock cylinder on the dash.

No promises about the wiring connectors being the same from '71 to '69 or '70, but the main mechanical parts of the column should bolt right up.

A '69 auto shift column fits in a '72...I just did this swap. No problems...direct bolt in.

a 71 column will not fit in a 68 without many modifications

the strap that holds the bottom of the dash is different where the brake pedal bracket and steering column bolt to
the wiring harness is different
the brake bracket is different and would also need to be changed
you can change all the stuff that bolts in
but, you are going to have to graft the strap from a 69 in
the strap is that piece of metal that runs along the bottom of the dash bezel
and you will have to cut the bezel a bit to fit it in
so basically what I am saying is that it is really not worth the hassle

That's ok. I was just curious.

Atleast we can say '69 thru '72 will work.
