: Powerglide question
Purs Oct 26th, 05, 2:36 PM Was there a "typical" rear gear ratio that GM put in an el Camino with a 10 bolt and Powerglide transmission? I looked on the passenger side axle tube and couldn't see any code at all... It's a '68 with a 327, 4 barrel. thank you.
EDIT>> did another search and looks like 3.08's or maybe even 3.36's since it has A/C....
Bomber '67 Oct 26th, 05, 10:00 PM 3.08's almost 100% of the time.

Chris/75 Oct 26th, 05, 10:16 PM Everyone ive seen has been 3.08
Motorhead62 Oct 26th, 05, 10:28 PM I beleive the gear ratio is more likely 3.36 - 1 as in my 67 El Camino
Purs Oct 26th, 05, 11:08 PM thanks guys! I'll jack it up and do the spin test tomorrow. Hey motorhead62, nice stable. You like the 67's huh? I've got a '68 C10 SWB with a 496, my '69 SS Chevelle, and me and my dad are fixing to venture in together with this '68 el Camino for a strip/street project. :)
Motorhead62 Oct 26th, 05, 11:18 PM Hey Purs,
Where you at in West Texas? I am from the Lubbock/Spur area!
Purs Oct 26th, 05, 11:30 PM Abilene. I've got some extended family from Spur. Small world.
Could be 3.36. My '69 Malibu with 307 PG and AC has that. If it didn't have AC it would've gotten 3.08 std. This is per the '69 Chevelle specs and features guide. I verified mine has 3.36. BUT, a 350 4 bbl (255 or 300 hp) got a 2.73 std with PG and AC. Other ratios were optional. "Economy", "performance", and "special" ratios were available for almost every combo.
mr 4 speed Oct 27th, 05, 8:48 AM My 68 Cutlass convertible with a 2 speed has 3.08's
69bu Oct 27th, 05, 9:51 PM my 69 malibu with a 307 came with 3.36 (a.c. car)
68malibu327 Oct 27th, 05, 10:02 PM mines a 68 malibu 327/275 4bbl, powerglide, 10 bolt, non posi
the axle tube reads out to be a 3.36
daggermonkey Nov 16th, 06, 2:03 PM What is the best option for replacing an old powerglide in a 69 Chevelle w/ a 350 small block? Should I have it rebuilt, or swap it for something sharper? Thanks for any help.
bradford Nov 16th, 06, 2:15 PM my sugestion is to pull the cover and get the numbers off the ring gear. this gives you a chance to change out the gear lube also. when was the last time it was changed 1968?
