Whats the difference between a Camaro 12 bolt and a Chevelle 12 bolt?

The Camaro has a leaf spring suspension and the Chevelle has a coil spring suspension. The suspension mounts are completely different.

if your looking to install a chevelle 12 bolt into your camaro just cut off the mounts on the tube install perches, there like 20 bucks your good to go! 67-69 camaro is the same width as the 65-67 chevelle and 68-72 chevelle is the same width as the 70-81 camaro. I'm tempted real bad right now to modify my spare chevelle 12 bolt for my camaro.

I have a '78 camaro 10-bolt in my '69 chevelle. I don't have a stock rear suspension configuration though. But regardless, it required cutting off all the mounting points from both units, and welding the spring perches from the chevelle housing onto the camaro housing (I didn't re-use the shock mounts).

Width wise, they are the same. With the mounting points welded on, the camaro unit went under my car without a hitch. The other cool thing about it is that fbody rear disc brakes bolted right onto it. :)

At any rate, with some careful work with the cutting wheel, grinder, and welder, it can be done. You have to take careful measurements to get the mounting points in the right position.

A Camaro rear end can not be used in a Chevelle with the stock suspension because the Camaro rear end does not have the upper controll arm eyes cast into it, and they can not be welded on.
