: Fenders don't fit!

I just put some new fenders on my '70 Chevelle, but when I got all the bolts in I couldn't open the doors! Where can I make adjustments to fix this, in the doors or fenders? How do I go about it?

AZ,
This is one of those "six pack" problems, 'cause you'll drink a six pack before you finally fix the problem! All of your adjustments will be on the fenders. Loosen ALL your mounting bolts and start moving the fender, first, forward to create a gap between the door and the fender. You will have to shim the top rear firewall bolt to keep it forward. The door has to actually swing behind the fender as it opens, and the adjustment for that is made by pulling the fender out toward you while tightening the two bolts on the bottom, near the rocker. Shims will, more than likely, be required there too. The top bolt, near the cowl and the top bolt behind the door also affect the outward "bulge" of the fender. All in all, the whole procedure is largely trial and error, mostly error! AND patience. Oh,did I mention patience? Wait'll you get the doors to open and the hood doesn't fit! But, that's another post! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

6 Pack!! Hell, it took me over a case!
Seriously though, It did take me several days of tinkering with my new fender before I got adjusted right.

Have fun.

They are repos. I got the top of them forward using shims on the fire wall bolts, but how can I move the bottom of the fender toward the front of the car?

AZ,
By loosening the two bottom bolts, by the rocker panel and the bolts that hold it to the radiator support, it has a bit of "play" to it. Also, don't forget the inner fender, where it bolts to the firewall. It's all trial and error, like I said. See what I meant by a "six pack project"? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

AZCHEVELLE Baby,

I once took a tire iron to create the neccessary clearance between the door and fender. That was after my patience, motivation and mental ability ran out. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif

Stop me before I Tire Iron again!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
