Help! Anyone out there know where acrylic laquer can be found at a half way decent price. I was able to find some for my last project but it cost me $230 per gallon.

You can still buy and use it in AZ but price depends more on color than material, I think. $230 sounds about right, last year I paid $32 for a pint of red for a repair. You can pay some huge numbers for high pigment colors. Its hard to find in stock, except in Phoenix, since almost everyone has started using the "modern" finishes.

In the 60s, lemonwood yellow was $30 a gallon. Reds and Oranges about $60. I was hoping in states where it is still legal for use, the price might not be quite so high.
Guess I'm outta luck.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

No problem. A friend is currently painting his streetrod. Going BC/CC using a F*&% Chestnut Pearl. He has about $900 in materials alone. Another used some House Of Color Orange Fire something, paint was $4000 for the materials. Where does it end?

I don't know if acrylic lacquer is the same kind of lacquer used in the 70's. The lacquer paint job on my Chevelle that I owned in the '70's had this great deep blue look to it when the paint was new. But, the lacquer chipped really easily. After a while, the paint had a lot of bad spots on it. I would have to think long and hard before going with lacquer again.

The laquer that you are able to get still is complete garbage and if you use it you will be getting really substandard paintwork. I can't belive anyone is still even thinking of using laquer in this day and age. Forget laquer and start thinking urethane.
