If anyone can post a link to some pictures of their 66 with a new Goodmark 2" steel cowl hood mounted up, that would be much appreciated.

I was very dissappointed with the fit of the "Goodmark" SuperSport hood that came from tiawan (figured it would be made in USA with US steel if it came from Goodmark)

Also, can anyone compare the fit of the hood to that of a repo SS hood.

And yes, I did do a search... Read through all the threads...

Did they solve the curvature problem? Does the new cowl hood match the fenders better, both on top and in the front?

A picture of each hood gap and along the front edge of the hood would speak a thousand words, and help me make my decision on buying another Goodmark product.

Why does it have to be a steel hood? Is that just your preferance? I put a fiberglass hood and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Just personal preference I guess.

I heard it takes a lot of work to get those glass hoods in shape.

However, this is the reason I'm asking such questions, to see how these brand new Goodmark hoods hold up against scrutiny from those who own them, and have used them...

I went to a local Goodmark distributor to purchase the 66 2" steel cowl induction hood but it has several defects that can't be repaired. Goodmark is re-tooling. If you want one that doesn't fit, he will make you a deal as he has several. Even Goodmark doesn't want them back. It looks like it will be another month or so. If you can wait that long, I will let you know how it looks/fits when I get one.

This thread was started several years ago. The re-tooling has already happened. If you recently purchased a new hood, chances are it is the re-tooled version which is supposed to fit fine. I have a first production 2" steel cowl hood. The problems were:

- Holes for chrome strip not located properly
- Gap on driver side front
- Center of hood higher from grill than the ends (hard to explain)
- Contour to fenders not perfect (neither are OEM)

The fit is actually decent as far as side to side & front to back. It closes fine and sits even with the fenders. I will be getting one of the re-tooled versions as the dealer that I buy from states the above mentioned issues have been addressed.

FWIW/Food for thought

many years ago, I wrote a letter to goodmark asking if they would consider making aluminum hoods. They may be able to use the existing forms, but aluminum is not the same as steel. If it requires retooling then it's a whole new can of worms.

Anyway, the guy who took the e-mail thought my suggestion was awesome and told me to have other people make the same request.

Perhaps someone can call them and ask if they would make the hood if a group buy could be made?

It's worth a shot -I would buy one.

I'm still interested in getting info on the re-tooled hood.

My 66 Project has stalled, have not worked on it in 4 years :( I have been working on 63 acres of land I bought, getting ready to build on it: http://usera.imagecave.com/whitedwarf4/

However, I'd still like to get responses from people who have used the new hood.

I bought a Goodmark 66 SS hood, but my original SS inserts turned out pretty ugly after paint. The body man just didn't do a good enough job fitting them to the hood. And the inserts are all warped, etc. I'm thinking of just putting a cowl induction hood on it as opposed to buying new SS inserts, as I need the chrome redone too. Plus, I like the look of the cowl induction, and my car is not a stock restoration anyways...

Theses 2" cowl hoods fit very nice, with nice gaps with very little work to make them straight. the metal is flimsy thin but thats with all the aftermarket metal you buy.

You can search under my name to see some pictures of my car with a 2" steel cowl hood and also do a search for 66 cowl hood, This has been talked about alot for a good year or so on here.

I bought my hood from NPD January 07.

Have fun getting back into your project.

I ordered a 2" cowl hood as soon as they became available in steel. At first glance it looked fine but when it went in for paint my bodyman spent 8 hrs.dealing with production imperfections to ready it for paint. He is very anal and I'm ok with that. When the car was reassembled after paint the gaps on both sides of the hood were a little wider than I would like but again its after market and you come to expect that.Overall,I am satisified with the hood and how it looks on my 66 .

I know the original ones had problems, then Goodmark retooled... When did you buy yours?

Hey ETD66SS,
I got my 2" cowl hood from a guy on the list from Mn., Goodmark, I'm happy with the results. I did however have to put about 20 hrs into it to get it near perfect. (I'm fussy)
The guy I purchased from was a very straight shooter and I would be happy to look up his name for you if your interested.
