I have a 68 Firebird that I am installing my 400 SBC into. I have been doing some measuring on other Firebirds & Camaros running SBC's & there is very little room between the dizzy & the firewall even with a standard dizzy. I am running an MSD in my engine & think that I will have trouble fitting it in due to being too close to the firewall. Has anybody come across this situation before & if so does the MSD fit in okay. I am told that by running a set of Big Block mounts that the engine gets moved slightly further to the front of the car but does this cause the sump of a small block to hit on the crossmember ?

I had a 68 Camaro that had a smallblock in it,,,dropped a big block right in where it was, neither had distributor/firewall issues. Does the FB still have Pontiac engine mounts? I'm sure Pontiac/Chevy would be different

It was supposedly set up for a Big Block Chev before coming to Australia & I have not taken the mounts out as of yet so I am unsure of what is in there. I am told that the Firebird & Camaro subframes have the same bolt holes in them but with different mounts as you have suggested.
I may be jumping the gun & may have no problems fitting the MSD but the cars I have looked at seem to be very close with the standard dizzy.

Yeah, subframes are the same, seems to me the distributor is real close to the firewall in either application, I had a standard points type dist. with a Mallory Unilite conversion in it.
