sinned Oct 22nd, 05, 8:28 AM WOW, I just threw away a pair of Purple Hories header mufflers...exact same specs as those. I think I paid about 60.00 brand new less than a year ago. I guess having the bird on them makes them much more valuable.
1971 Chevelle Oct 22nd, 05, 9:49 AM My dad had those on his chevelle and he got pulled over alot because it was so loud.
DUKEdevils36 Oct 22nd, 05, 11:35 AM What kind of performance would you get out of those things?
67RAT Oct 22nd, 05, 11:41 AM I would think on the performance piont of view,I would like the mufflers farther away from the headers, but most likely makes no difference, these were the big rage in the 1980s--jmo--67rat
Jim Mac Oct 22nd, 05, 12:34 PM everyone in high school ran those, you just went to supershops bought your 49.99 headers and pay 16.99 for each of those and you were legal. unfortunately everytime you hit a speed bump you would clearance them a little,
OrrieG Oct 22nd, 05, 3:05 PM I used to run the Thrush Hush (turbo knockoffs) in the 70's. Yikes $180 for a $20 muffler!! Someone will start knocking them off........
pukes66 Oct 23rd, 05, 12:23 PM I just went to the Auto Zone by my house. They have these in stock....$29.95 each. I figure I can buy all they have in stock and make a killing on eBay. Better yet, with my proceeds from the auctions, I can buy parts for my Velle. Pennies from Heaven!! LOL!!!

BillsCamino Oct 23rd, 05, 8:54 PM Wow...I didn't know Thrush mufflers still existed!!
I had a set on those back in 1970 on my '64 Impala SS convert.
pdq67 Oct 23rd, 05, 8:56 PM "Grandpa Pigeons Discount Store" on St. Charles Rock Road!!
How I miss that place!! You could go in there AND buy a tailpipe adapter right off the shelf!! As well as any cheap, stock, shock you needed!!
Buy "Purple Hornies" if you still want header mufflers!

Andy69 Oct 24th, 05, 3:00 PM is it just me or am I the only one who associates "Thrush" with something you get from a $2.00 whore?
1971 Chevelle Oct 24th, 05, 7:00 PM I thought they quite making these 20 years ago. They still make Thrush glasspacks but they are red right. Not like these ones in the auction.
webfoot Oct 24th, 05, 7:09 PM Look at the bid history, I guess indyandy17 wants those things pretty bad.

I'll sell him a set for $100. If he buys more than one set, I'll even ship them for free!! LOL!!! Gotta love eBay!!
dirtrocker Oct 24th, 05, 8:14 PM Do they still make them just like that?
pdq67 Oct 24th, 05, 8:34 PM Walker/Dynomax/Thrush Continental, (smooth perforated inner pipe), glasspacks owned by Dynomax now.
Red now, but used to be blue colored. And you used to be able to buy just the blanks so you could weld them on.
Best glasspacks made, IMHO!!
