Hey Gang,

We got a load of '70 questions here today.. Now on to mine. I have a 70 malibu that has the plastic inner fender on the passenger side. It has finaly gotten to the point of replacement (battery lock down is now not working). The car has heater/ac blower box attacted to the fire wall.

My question is what goes into replaceing this fender? Is it a lot of removing of parts? Is it an indepth project? Does anyone have a step by step walkthrough for this repair? What is a decient price for replacement fender?

Thanks for any info on this guys..

Josh, re-pops at OPG are about 90 bones. They aren't to bad to R&R.
First, jack and support the car and remove the wheel/tire.
Remove all the bolts securing the inner fender to the outer fender, firewall and the core support.
Rotate the inner fender out by lowering the rear of it and lifting the front as you rotate the rear out of the wheel opening in the outer fender. The forward most inner corner of the inner fender may catch on the core support where it bolts to the frame. You may be able to bend the corner to clear it, or trim it to clear. Once its out, check all your nuts and nut cages and replace the ones that are toast, or just get the whole kit and replace them all.
Install is the reverse of removing it, and yes, the front inner corner may hang up on the core support again, but it is easier to get it past the core support going in, then coming out. If need be a little trimming may be in order. Start all the bolts, but do not tighten them untill they are all in, you may have to open/elongate some holes in the re-pop inner to get them to align. After they are all started, tighten them up.
Also, if you are going to install the splash quard, do it while the inner fender is out, cause once its in, its a bear.
I've never done one with the radiator installed, so I don't know if it will clear, however you don't need to do anything with the heater or a/c box. The fender will easily clear them on the way out and in.
Hope this helps, Jim.
