I have a 69 chevelle and I want to put the classic chevelle hood and trunk stripes on. I know it wasnt on the car originally but i think they are really cool. I dont understad the kit. You get stencils. Is the stencil the area that gets painted white. So let me get this right you spray your white paint. on the car. than lay the stencil over the dry white paint. do you need to delicately sand the white paint out of the crease that goes between the major stripe and the thin skiiny one that surrounds it? than spray your paint on the whole car and peel away the stencil and you should have stripes. thats the way i see how to do it. I think im worng if anyone can tell me the basic run through on putting on stripes that would be a big help. What color of white is used on the stripes?

I really think you might want to have a body shop do it for you. This is not the easiest thing to do, even for guys who have done a lot of paint and body work. It's easy to mess up, but it's not easy (or cheap) to fix. Just my .02

if you check the Chevelle SS restoration Guide book, page 140 it says that hood/deck stripes were available in late 69'. these are different than a 70-72 stripe.the book gives a discription and measurements but no picture..i hope this confuses you. many people think 69s never had them.

I think it was a piece of cake. and I am not a professional. see my stripes on my 70 at www.einstyn.com (http://www.einstyn.com) it may not be 100% show quality but for racing and street its grate. the kit works good. after the car paint(in my case yellow) has cured sufficiently. I just wiped off the surfaces with a degreaser recommended by Mattos (a local paint supplier). then you lay the stencil on the car. you must get it in the right position the first time cause it sticks. use pencil to mark centerlines and locating dimensions. you put the whole template down, the stencil includes all stripes and thin trim lines in one.after you lay it down and flatten it out you peel out the portions of the template that expose the area to get the new color (black for me) this includes the area of the fat stripe and the little trim stripe. then you tape paper to the stencil masking the rest of the car from overspray. right after done spraying remove stencil. go for it.
