I have a 78 El Camino with 350/350 th. Engine is stock with a Rochester QJet. I would like to put a TBI on it. I see used stuff (off doner vehicles) for sale, but I'm not an electronic whiz. What books are good at covering this info??. Seems like most books cover TPI< but I'm not willing to spend that much cash. I have a 95 chev truck and it has TBI, so I know how well it can work.
thanks,McQ

I would do some web research. I recall there being a number of sites that walk through the low-buck TBI approach. Here are some starters:
http://www.customefis.com/index.html
http://www.force-efi.com/
One area that gets short coverage in most of the literature I have read is the fuel supply system. Sure they talk about EFI fuel pumps... but not really anything about fuel tank sumps. If the '78 has a tank anything like my '68 (shallow and wide) you can have a serious fuel slosh and for EFI you will need to work some kind of sump or surge tank into your plans. I plan on something like this:

Arizona Marine has a duel tbi setup you should check out if you want tbi. You need a duel quad or tunnel ram intake. There was an article in super chevy or chevy high performance a long time ago about it.

There is a place in Livermore,California called Jags That Run. They have a great book that covers both TBI and TPI conversions. Go to their website for more information. www.jagsthatrun.com
If you do the conversion, I would recommend that you get a tank sending unit for a '87 El Camino with fuel injection. It has the intank pump. This might be the one for a V6 injected engine. I used one in my '81 El Camino TPI conversion. Even better, get tank and sending unit. The tank has a baffle to keep fuel around the pump. My El Camino will fall on it's face due to fuel starvation(no baffle) on hard cornering.
I would also recommend that you buy an aftermarket harness. They are cheap VS the time spent to convert a donor harness to your application. Been there!!!!!
