In our local newspaper today, some people were quoted saying what they would do if they won the Powerball lottery. One woman said she would buy a brand new Camaro. Um, doh...I hate to burst her bubble, but...

My wife and I were having this discussion last night, seeing as I had just gone and purchased the winning ticket :)

Aside from setting all our close friends and family up with a big chunk of change, and setting me up with a giant garage full of cars :D and getting Brandi that lasik eye surgery, I figure we'd set up a few foundations to do things like pay scholarships and things of that sort. Boy then the question become what to do with the other $150 million............

Maybe go to the next Barret jackson and buy every single car just for grins?

Commission GM to build that rendering of the Camaro that's been going around the internet?

I've always wanted to own a Rembrandt....

we had a guy here recently, he won a ton of $, if i remember correctly, it was in the $55 million range. when asked what he was going to do? he said he would quit one of his jobs......my boss asked, if i won the lottery, if i would give notice? i said, "heres my notice right now, if i win the lottery, i won't be in to work.....ever again". he laughed, but i was serious....

Honestly, the first thing I would do is buy a home somewhere tropical.

I have always felt I am a tropics person living in a winter persons body

I would only use it as a vacation home, which with $340 million, life would be a vacation right?

When I wasn't there, I would let friends and family use it.

The second thing I would do, before even considering my employment status, would be to retire my parents and in-laws. They have worked hard enough, time to relax.

Then after setting up my financial future with an advisor, I would indulge a bit for myself. Not sure with what, but something cool.

Oh yeah, and I would pay Andy69 to take me scuba diving on a really cool ship wreck. :beers:

I would set up my parents and in-laws. rest of my kinda close family would all get 5K. after that, they're on their own.

Next deal is go to to St Thomas in the USVI and buy a nice vacation home. I would also build a nice moderate home in a nice neighborhood here (think Walter Mondale's, Dick Schultz (Best Buy prez)).

8 car garage.... car for wife, car for me, truck for me, chevelle, a checkbook camaro for me, a really old car for me-I want t T-Bucket too. The rest of the space would be shop....think Ultimategarages.com type.

Oh, yeah. need to get a tie too.

Quit my job.
Buy Mom some land anywhere she wants and build the house of her dreams.
Make sure Sis is well taken care of.
Plan a trip to England with Mom and Sis as Mom is British and she hasn't been back since '56.
Send my paraplegic best friend to the best CGI school in the country so he can enjoy working at what he likes to do, but also make sure he doesn't have to work.
And of course...house, cars, toys, etc!
I might go to a tech school for fun to learn more on how to work on my car/cars.
Last but not least, make my '69 into one mean silver machine!!:D.

I'd buy Brainerd International Raceway (Brainerd MN), some adjacent land for a muscle-car/WWII fighter plane museum, and a summer home on a nearby lake. My winter home would be somewhere in Texas.

That 3000hp '55 on Ebay would be my daily driver. :)

not much really

buy 1500 + acres of hunting land and hire a full time biologist to help me manage it for big bucks
have the biggest log cabin built in the middle of it, with a matching garage for the classic cars,a matching shop to do restorations in (like boyds shop) a matching building for my full blown personal gym with a cook on the payroll

buy a new chevy p/u loaded, a c6 vette, and a lexus. probably get the wife a new kia or something :)
a trust fund for the kids
take care of the relatives I like

take hunting trips and bowhunt every legal game animal in the world

Yea, about the same thing here. I wonder what the effects of a 1/4 mile entry lane ( with shut down area ) would do the deer?:D

Also, COPO Chevelles for all my friends at TC. Bain will be busy!

Lets see ... I would give all of my Daughters and Son-in-Laws 5 million each.
I would set up trust funds for my 13 Grandchildren. my Parents and In-Laws would
get 10 million. I would also give 25 Thousand to anyone who ever did me a favor
or had a kind word. Last but not least, I would set up a separate account to
distribute money for all the Folks who are working hard and struggling to make
ends meet.

In the end, I would give quite a bit away because I only need so much.

I would wonder what it was like to be poor.

I would relieve my family and friends of all their debt.
Plus give them a couple mil each on the condition they never
asked for more.

I would move to a warmer climate, probably somewhere remote in
California, away from the fruits and nuts and drive my Chevelle
to the golf course every morning.

I'd buy a P51 Mustang and fly it.
I'd put all six 50 cals in it and practice on my private firing range.

I would send anyone to college that wanted to go, providing they held a C average.

I would donate a huge sum to the Cancer Society. However, under the condition that the funds were monitored and a yearly report of where they went was sent to me.

I guess its fun to dream of the impossible.

1. Close the office and give employees something to help with transition. Would keep the admin to help me shes pretty sharp. Alternative would be to keep going until key employee is licensed then give the practice to him if he wants to do that.
2. Move and build spanish house my wife wants with "adequate" shop and garage space for my toys.
3. Pay of kids homes and send them back to school if they want to go.
4. Set up trust and endowment for grandkid and future generations education. Would also include siblings kids.
5. One time payment to siblings to do what they want. Some will put it to good use, others will blow it...
6. Something for my parents to pay them back for all their support. They don't need money, but could fund some one to help with day to day stuff they are getting too old to deal with. I also would get my dad a 66 Porsche 911 to fulfill one of those stupid 16 year old kid promises I made.
7. Set up a scholarship endowment at the colleges I graduated from.
8. Travel.
9. Get toys, nice get away cabin (probably two one up north one somewhere warm in winter).
10. Start working with organizations that help poor that want better lives to provide education, housing, etc. Habitat for Humanity and Neighborhood Housing Services come to mind, I've been involved in both, would have more time.
11. There are a few others I would help too, won't mention them here, but there have been people that have given me a boost along the way.
12. Help wife spend her half....I'm sure she would help out her siblings too.

nice home (but not large by any means) with a good size shop garage, shooting range, nice pool

I'd have lots of toys (cars, guitars, guns) but I would still like to work (assuming I make it into the field I want). Take a chance and publish some things I write without worrying if they fail. I'd have fun but I wouldn't blow it all, and I would rather work than spend time doing everything so that I got bored again.

I'd set my family and friends up well and maybe invest in a school devoted to teaching young guys about cars. Prolly start up some music/ writing/ art scholarships.

Hey Jeff, if you buy around here, I know this guy that'll watch the house, and as long as you have an extra 5 stalls or so in your garage, he'd take care of your nice collection, too. :D

I bet he'd even shoot you a pineapple overnight every week, but not on holiday weekends. :D

i think i'd show up to work for at least a few more days. to take a dump on my bosses desk, every day. just kidding, my boss is one of the people who would end up somewhere near a large body of water with me... drinking and playing with power tools. I mean, responsibly doing anything we feel like doing. or anyone.

actually, I'd start a chain of rent by the hour garages so everyone that doesn't have the luxury can enjoy their hobby to the fullest. I know i could have used a place like that at one time or another. anyone care to invest?

First I'd call my lawyer friend, and get some advise, and some papers started up to lay out several things. My will would cover almost everything, but it pays to make sure. Second I'd call the phone company and have my # disconnected. Third I'd call a fence company and fence myself in, (got to keep those newly acquired distant relatives out), and fourth I'd call work, and tell them I'd see them on Monday. MAN I'd be a pain to work with!!!

Set up family, friends, anyone dear to me, with enough to get out of their day-by-day situations. I have one group in mind that has bent over backwards to keep me in good shape over the years, and they can't afford to retire.. boy would I love to help that.
I'd give a good chunk to my college. GOOD chunk. I didn't like it when I went there, then went somewhere else after my degree, and boy, the pot of gold I found and thought it was that junk they sold in museum gift shops.
Then I'd really just buy alot of land somewhere warmer in the US, and a place in the UK for a travel hub.

Oh yeah. One of each model year chevelle- to 72. Fix my LS5 to factory specs, and find a '69 to go nuts on.
oh yeah- 10m to the ACLU
& - $10m to the NRA.
& develop a super friendship via fundraising dinners with important govt officals.
