Was it possible to get a CRR stamp on a "CE" 289 block. I thought "CE" blocks were stamped as such. Is this a restamp?

1970 LS-6 blocks are CRR or CRV stampings on "512' cast BLOCKS.

Ask him to take a picture of the casting date on the back of the block. The motor is out and a good picture would be easy.

What he has is a LS-6 "Crate" motor that was available through any Chevrolet dealer parts dept. The #289 block started production in 1972, I happen to have a CRR crate motor with the #289 cast number, was cast in Feb of '72. Lots of them were made, many were sold over the counter and many were put in go fast boats by boat manufactures, including jet drive boats. It is probably not restamped, don't know why would someone would try to fake a motor with the wrong casting number!

They are said to be highly desirable due to their high nickel content used during the casting process.

Hope this helps

That's interesting. I have not heard that before. My ls7 has a 289 block.

IT WAS A SERVICE REPLACEMENT ENGINE THAT WAS DEALER INSTALLED IN 1972. SINCE THEN WAS STARTED AND WARMED UP 4-5 TIMES PER YEAR. I WAS TOLD THIS MOTOR HAD AROUND 50000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT.

Since being installed it was started and warmed up 4-5 times a year and still has 50,000 miles on it? What?

look at the first sentence the seller has now added to the description. looks like he's been getting a lot comments about this one.
