Are the 70-72 top frames interchangable in the way of power vs manual? The frame on my newly acquired 70 is not in that great of shape, and I have a lead on another one. I just want to know before I go ahead and buy it. Also, is there more involved in coverting to a power top than simply installing the pump motor, cylinders, lines, and wiring?

Tom,

Do a search on here for the topic, as I know it's been covered before. I am sure I read where the manual and power top frames are NOT interchangeable, but that could have been just for the 64 - 67 models

Power and manual top frames are definately different, to convert from manual to power you will need the top frame, pump, lines, cylinders and the switch and wiring harness.

68-72 chevelle/cutlas/gto should all be the same. Its still going to take a little muscle or 2 people to take it in/out. Verify with a parts interchange manual or call up a junk yard that has a classic car interchange computer program.

Double wire should fit easy into long floor ribbon plastic cover.

You can also consult hydro electric in punta gorda florida who specializes in convert classic top parts. You may be able to get away with using your existing original top brackets and buying only the lower pump arms/lines/pump/fluid/elec wiring/ and retract guide wire.

Good luck
